Sony NWZ-X1060 32GB (8,000 songs, 120h video) Walkman® MP3/MP4 player, with 3" OLED touchscreen and built-in Digital Noise Cancelling. S-Master digital amplifier, DSEE and more Clear Audio Technologies

Very well reviewed DAP normally £289 - M&S are reducing this by 25% making the price £216.75.
This has great reviews and I think is now discontinued )replaced by the A series?) so it's actually quite difficult to get hold of especially at a decent price.

Sound quality is outstanding - pair this with a good set of IEMs and not a lot will touch it.
Drawback compared to the Cowon J3?- no memory expansion.

However this is a good price for a sought after player.
Even better is an M&S TWO year guarantee.

Even though the website does not list this as a NWZ-X1060 it is........
Also please try quidco for a further 3% or £6.50 off.

Delivery is something like £4-95 but reserve and pickup instore is free so should not be an issue.
Just remembered - there is no FLAC support for this player which may put off some people, but for most this is not a problem.

seen this for £140 on grade A in Tunbridge wells CEX. they got grade by for £115 delivered too.

Yup, saw that when it was posted, but there was some dispute as to the condition of the ones they have/had, with dodgy batteries and a perhaps economical idea of what grade A actually meant.
So you take a rick buying from CEX and nor do you get the two year warranty.

Makro, by the way, have no stock left.

Bought this and returned it straight away. The noise cancellation only works with the supplied headphones. Plus the internet function on it is rubbish!

Pity, because the sound is amazing!

Depends what you want from a DAP though, I bought it for two reasons, firstly price, (I picked up one after posting the deal at Makro a few months ago for £140) and secondly, I did not want a DAP for applications....iPod Touch.

Difference of sound between this and an iPod Touch is night and day. If you had an external Noise Cancelling headphone set, you would also have had to deal with an adaptor in cord, so personally the supplied headphones are great for when you need the option.

The internet option of it a pain as a useable browser, but is handy for its youtube ability.

For a music player, I wouldn't recommend anything else.

You should have been more patient - you've returned the best DAP on the market for no reason! Should have upgraded the firmware from v1.02 to v1.10, which installs the Netfront browser. As for the headphones, of course noise cancelling only works with the supplied phones - unlike cheaper systems, the X-Series uses active NC as opposed to passive, which is superb but requires feedback of ambient noise through the microphones built into the buds.

Hot deal for a great player - mine's being buried with me! Can't believe Sony have discontinued this without putting a comparable unit back on the market.

Absolutely, Sony's marketing totally puzzles me, I am amazed with the quality of this product, and Sony have now took a step back....no wifi, no touch screen and a smaller OLED Screen on the new flagship A Series.

I really want the Cowon J3 as I would like to try FLAC on a DAP and that also has the memory expansion capacity for movies etc which this one does not.

However, the price reductions for this player start to make me want to compromise and settle for this with no Flac and no memory expansion.

Tradeoff between what I think I want (as opposed to what I can live with or need) and some serious price reduction on this excellent and highly thought of Sony - see the possibility of some left at £99 at John Lewis.
Still tempted but would love the flexibility of being able to shove in a micro sd.

Phoned to check and reserved and picked one up for my wife last night in John Lewis for £99 (Solihull), to be honest, if encoded using LAME I find a VBR great, do not notice any loss, something about the processing in these Sony players that gives such depth and richness to decent encodings.

Only downside for me with these players (as with all Sonys) is the lack of being able to create playlists on the fly..the 32gb is fine for me as I primarily use mine for music
