Yep get it, you wont regret it.

I have this but in silver. great mp3 player that rarely drops in price. This is a great deal for under 100

Surprised that these are even being made today. At 100 quid, a 5 inch phone could be a better choice. Better still, get a tablet..

Sorry, it's winter.. oO

Sounds fantastic, purchased one when they first come out and put a 128GB MicroSD card in. I use it purely for FLAC files.
#5
would the sound play back be better than a modern Android mobile?

No comparison between a phone and this when it comes to sound quality

I used to have the sony but if you are into your music, have a good library of high res files and can afford to pay a bit more, the astells and kerns are the players to go for. Unfortunately they are usually available through good hifi dealers and very expensive. The A&K juniors start at 3 -4 times the price of the Sony

This is for people who want a dedicated player with physical buttons. I dont really understand the "use your phone" comments. I have had mine for around 2 years and use it everyday.

can't believe this is cold, loads of info, comments, threads on the headfi forum a while back.. very tempting, and don't forget to buy a micro sd card.
#10
sorry this is a good starting point but I wouldn't spend that money if used for mp3 format. you need to be looking at uncompressed flac format to fully make full use of the player and also an external micro SD card as 16GB would not hold a lot once you used the uncompressed format

Just a warning - i heard the volume is nowhere near as good as the NWZ-A818 (which i own). Even when paired up with a bluetooth speaker it doesn't increase the volume much. Its just based on what i read so don't go taking my word for it. I was gonna purchase this, which i was thinking about for over a year, so just glad i found out everything about this Walkman before it was too late.

yes it has been around (surprisingly as they used to change their mp3 players every 6 - 9 months) for more than 2 years and the price hasn't drop much in that time. it probably shows there are not many high res player around or probably limited market many are more expensive

This is not true in my experience. When paired with the soundlink mini it can go pretty loud, my MDR-1R headphones also reach a decent level.

Yes I think the market for a standard music player is gone. However the amount of high end players available right now is surprising.

This deal was on the other day and I grabbed one. I have a 5 year old model which is showing its age now. Time for an update :)

By the way, don't get me wrong, this is a really good deal and if it wasn't for the volume issue i would purchase this in a heartbeat. I also own the NWZ-S755 and the volume on that is probably the same as this Walkman. The NWZ-A818 is superior and if you get the chance to buy one and don't mind second hand then that would be a really amazing buy which you probably won't regret.

You need to turn off the volume limit in settings, makes a big difference.

Ah, thank you so much for that. Are you sure you used both of those with this Walkman? I really gotta consider buying this then if that's true.

is there a optical type adapter cable that can be connected to the device for digital output (optical), say to a amp?

I have the MDR myself but some might find it too natural (or laidback) sound. I used the sennheisers as well for rock and rap / house / club. The ZX1 was a very good player but as I used 32 bit 192 files the A&K is in a different league

yes, you can get those "tos-link" adaptor on ebay or amazon quite cheaply (i.e. I think I got them for less than a £ ea. It has 3.5mm plug to a digital optical socket which you plug one end of the optical cable into

sorry, I was wrong I got them for 2.99 a pair :|

Sorry, no I got those for my A&K players which are

One of the few reasons why I gave up on the sony(s) and for those who like high volume (I do) on players, so far the A&K goes the loudest I have heard yet but they have built in amplification.

I like the look of the NWZ-A15 but the output (10mW/16ohm) is far too weak.
To make matters worse the EU model will have a volume cap! Need some sensitive IEMS to get any excitement out of it.

All the jargon in the description at Amazon makes me rather want a portable DAC/AMP for a phone.

DSEE HX technology upgrades compressed files

Come on Sony.

On a similar note could this be attached to a dac with optical in and use the aptx to stream wireless
