£129.99 on the Sony web site. Kicks the ass of ipod and all other mp3 players with awesome sound and Video play back facility. £74.99 if you can find a free delivery code or a money off voucher. Great price for an excellent PMP.

Got one myself for Xmas.

Be prepared for the 'been listed before' posters.

List this myself a few weeks ago (from PLay.com) but it was removed as it had been posted previous, even though it's impossible to find using the search function.

This player also dispenses with the worst piece of software known to man, Sonicstage, allowing proper drag-and-drop functionality.

Sony mp3 players have always destroyed iPods for sound quality. Now they've sorted the software issue out it's a no-brainer (especially since earlier today the iPod 4GB was listed at this price).

i used sonicstage with my nw5hdh and found it fine. connect was rubbish but it doesnt matter as my missus got one of these this month and sonicstage isnt included as sony have stopped using it. i got the 160gb ipod classic to replace the nw5hdh (we'd both had our mp3s stolen!) and think they are both great for different reasons. this 8gb sony is tiny! very thin and light with no harddrive. but i love the ipod for the extra storage & features

good deal for an excellent Mp3 Player
#6
just thought id let people know i own both this and the older sonicstage version and the sonicstage version is superior!
Why i hear you cry?
Well you can no longer make on the fly playlists and the rating system has also gone,
but the playlist is a real downer for me.
I also think sonicstage is fine.
#7
Good a great deal, but sony are releasing so many new MP3`s i dont even know which one to buy anymore lol.
Might wait for the 16gb walkman.
#8
No way as good as an ipod.

Apple Rule the mp3 market, phone and computer markets.

I completely disagree. I've had a horrendous time with sonicstage and ended up selling an early A808 because of it. See another users experience here. Purchased a new A818 as soon as it was released, as drag and drop is (to me) infinitely better than OTG playlists and ratings.

Is that some sort of joke?

Good deal, voted hot because you don't have to use sonicstage anymore

What do you think "dispenses with" means?

maybe ive been lucky
but all i do is drop any music to sonicstage then to the player, simple

lack of on the go playlists kills this player for me

How do you put videos on this damn thing? :p
Awesome player I just have no idea how to put videos on it, or more specifically a good piece of free software that will convert them to the appropriate format.

i agree with u it sucks

80gb ipod is much better :whistling:

This player ( or very similar ! ) was posted about 2 weeks ago ...£74.99 @ Play.com

Got one for my son...he loves it and has ditched his iPod in favour of the Sony.

The Sony has VASTLY superior sound quality...the drag and drop makes it a doddle to use.

iPod looks better, no doubt , but it's about the quality of sound and ease of use...and Sony have the edge.

Good post...voted hot.............and a good value, top quality piece of kit.
#17
the only reason everything is ipod is becuase of peoples negligence. apple is not the only MP3 player out there, i did research before i bought mine and this was getting great reviews. i have a 4gb sony in the same version as this and found it SO much better than my ipod i had aaages ago (which was found not bought). anything non drag-drop is just annoying and bloat software to me, i want the easability to just drag and play.

the quality of the sound, earphones, video playback is incredible, and GUI are really really good much better than apple's IMO... this has been called the ipod killer and ill AMEN TO THAT!

im sick of apple and thier overinflated prices, get a real player, get this!
#18
Quick question:

I have the NW-A806 - does this feature the drag-and-drop system also?
#19
If you think the iPod is better than this DAP I suggest you register at Head-Fi and AVForums and read until you know what you're talking about... :whistling:

This was £75 delivered on play, it has now gone up, was going to post this earlier. I think this is the best price on the web.

And it batters the **** out of the iPod regarding sound quality (Almost anything DOES, really...)

And you don't have to use SonicStage.

I've been using 'Super' by erightsoft which is free (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) to convert video to 320x240 mp4 format. Has converted everything I've tried so far without a hitch.

Got 2 a few weeks back and was a bit :x about the lack of video software but after traweling the net I've found that 'MediaCoder' device edition does the trick well with minimum fuss http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/device/mpx.htm, just have to change one of the sound settings to MP4/MPEG-4/AAC and of course the best bit is its free !
#23
ive got the 2gb NWZ-A815
its awesome
and i dont even use the sonicstage software just drag and drop straight to the player as if it was a portable drive then it just automatically updates library once disconnected from usb
#24
Will this play songs bought from itunes?
#25
I just got the 2 gig version and kinda regretted coz i should've gone for the higher capacity one! I love this nifty device, there is no need for any software, just drag and drop ...excellent! Kinda annoyed that no video converting software is include so had to download video encoding to convert to MP4.

The sound is excellent, kicks ipod's asses anytime. The bundled earphones in this unit is a very very good one too, it's not those random ones they usually provided.

Voted HOT HOT HOT! Getting one myself...for this price!

its cheaper than the ipod for a reason

An Ipod Nano is to expensive (comparitevly, not enough gigs for you £££)

PS3 >>> Xbox 360

surely the sound quality is determined by the bit rate that you convert the audio to when you transfer songs? Apple have this set at a lowish quality by default don't they?

Maybe i'm confused?

That what I thought, but then my mate wanted to prove to me that this player has better sound quality then iPod. So we transferred exactly the same song and file to both the iPod and Sony and used the same earphones. Unfortunately for me my iPod didn't sound anywhere near as good as this player. The only thing that is preventing me from buying this is the UI as it is not as friendly as the iPods, otherwise this is a killer MP3 player.
#33
Alot of things factor into sound quality, from the connectors used, to the processing chip that manages the sound. Its sort of like why some CD players sound **** compared to other ones even though they are playing exactly the same CD. The bitrate is only one factor in the whole thing.
#34
My friend has one of these, they are very slim, sorta like the older generation ipod Nano's (slim and tall one). After playing around with it ALOT, I'd get one if I didn't already have a Creative Zen.
#35
What's everyones thoughts on this compared to the Creative Zen?

I'm stuck between the two.

Oh and If you click on the information link about this on the site, it says headphones not included?
#36
Is this mac compatible? I know the creative one wasn't. Some companies need to make more effort with showing mac compatibility, or I'll just go and buy an iPod.
#37
I bought this at 74.99 from Play when that deal was posted here previously. Best decision I've made. Despite owning an iPod Nano which is a nice bit of kit, I've always had a slight negative bias against the fruit logo players, and I hate iTunes, which looks utilitarian, and doesnt always play nicely with Windows systems.

This Sony doesnt use SonicStage (that was for the older versions), so you either just drag and drop using Windows Explorer, or sync with the infinitely more usable (and better looking) Windows Media Player 11.

The screen is absolutely fantastic, and believe me, the lack of apples click-wheel is no great loss. In fact, using the buttons on the circular control pad makes it feel kind of space-aged and new after the Nano.

Sound quality is awesome. The included ear-phones are the best I've ever owned, and as long as you use the correct sized buds (3 different sizes included) you will experience rich deep bass and crystal clear treble.

Video quality is also stunning. I've downloaded WinAVI Video Converter Pro (about £15) as it gets great reviews, but I'm sure the free software others have mentioned above will do the trick just as well. A 2.5 hour movie (Transformers 2007) took about 700mb.

It's very intuitive to use, I havent even glanced at the manual (assuming one was included, who knows!) as I just plugged it in, fired up WMP11 and started transferring tracks within minutes of getting it out of the box.

In case you haven't guessed, I love my new Walkman, and would absolutely recommend this model to anyone. I don't even work for Sony, it's just that this really is an iPod killer in my opinion.

Now if only I felt the same about my Sony Bravia LCD telly which I bought recently... d'oh! What a let down!

and I hate iTunes

I totally agree. iTunes is so **** and it annoys the hell out of me that it is always running in the background without me even opening it! If you don't believe me press control-alt-delete and select 'processes' and the you'll find ituneshelper.exe, applemobiledeviceservice.exe and ipodservice.exe all running away, using up precious resources. It's a parasite!

Apple suck!
