2.4 inches is not massive for a display.

Yeah be brainwashed to become another Ipod fanboy, next thing you know Apple will bring out an alternative to the PC.

I wish they would not make these things with built in speakers, you get some annoying little chav and his mates playing happy hardcore or r&b (westwood style s.h.i.t) at full blast on the back of the bus.

Thank god i dont use the bus anymore LOL:-D

I've got a slightly older version and the sound quality is much better than an iPod. Good headphones supplied with these as well.

Especially if you fancy something with inferior sound quality.

Firstly, it is well known that the sound of Sony MP3 walkmans have superior sond than ipods, secondly why are you trying to compare a 16GB flash based MP3 player to a 120GB ipod classic, which is hard disk based?

If anything you should be comparing the ipod Nano 16gb to this, which at around £110 plus does not remotely compare on price, sound quality, and headphone quality supplied.

Out of all the MP3 players I have tried, I have to say Sony and Samsung players have both had superior audio chipsets. Feature wise I find Samsung offer more, build quality and supplied headphones I would favour Sony players.
#16
Agreed. The sound quality of a Sony is superior to any other player I've come across, including the ipod.

This is a good price for a 16gb Sony. Heat added.

Cold, should spend a bit more money and hire the bands to play the music live.

Gee, I sure hope this post isn't for real. This player is perfectly decent for the money.
#21
lol at the ipod quotes!!!

If you wanna spend more money then buy sony's equivalent to the big ipods....

the sound quality is out of this world, its like having a concert in your head, sony supply them with quite simply amazing battery operated sound isolating earphones.

I myself have the 8gig version of the above product and am amazed by the quality

for 70 quid the 16gb is a bargain. not sure why they are supplying with the rubbish headphones though

I have to mention that with this player you can drag and drop files onto it rather than converting them into ipod language and having to have somthing that only works on your player. "I hate that ipods do this"
#22
Lol +1
I have both, and ipod loses

iPods are shiny so they must be best. Much like all Apple computers (dont look at the spec sheet though, just look at how shiny it is!)
#24
Excuse my ignorance, having avoided the whole Ipod thing.......but following a previous comment on the built in speakers - I assume you can turn those off if you are using the headphones? I feel the need to finally invest in one of these sound beasties and from what I have read here am very tempted by this rather than one of the fruit devices! So any other advice would be very much appreciated - assuming I know nothing!

This kind of mentality reminds me of Rocky 5 - in a way I see Rocky as the Sony Walkman and Tommy Gunn as the Apple iPod. :-D

Rocky is the original and had there been no Rocky, there would be no Tommy Gunn.
Had there been no Walkmans, the iPod wouldn't be what it is today.
Had there not been Playstations, the Xbox wouldn't be what it is today.

People forget what Sony has done - they set the standard for a lot of things and now you get brainwashed followers (iSheep) who just want to be seen as "cool" and disregard the best or are even totally ignorant of what companies like Sony have brought to the table.

At the end of Rocky 5, it's clear who really is the best - sure iPods are outselling Walkmans now and making the big bucks but the point is, it's all about the quality and realness - you just can't beat someone who made you what you are. The real people know the real champ.

Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

I got my son one of these for Christmas, from Amazon too, via another post on this site.

He's had iPods, Creative Zens and this. He likes this the best by far for sound quality. He said the iPod was a bit easier to do some stuff on, but that the sound quality is what matters to him, and this wins hands down.

Oh and.. now he's replaced the already decent, supplied earphones with some more expensive ones, I don't have to hear any of the annoying leaky sound from it, yay!
#27
sound quality on this is second to none, but remember to throw away the included pair of earphones and buy a decent pair!

The speakers only come on if you turn them on using the button on the side, I have never used the internal speakers yet.

I brought one of these at Christmas using the cashback deal. The supplied headphones are not great, as with most players. I replaced the headphones with these Sennheiser MX 760's http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-MX-760-Earphones-Basswind-System/dp/B000VR9OZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269352322&sr=8-1 and they sound very good with powerful bass. Surprisingly I brought the Sennheiser CX 300-II first off, but they did not sound half as good as the 760's, and the volume was really low in comparison.

This is a decent MP3 player for the price, and the battery life is very good.....

Can you record the radio on this??

What do you think about these elsewhere on this site ''Klipsch Image X1 Headphones for £17.99 Delivered @ Amazon''? Would these work too or are they 'i' specific (as mentioned in the post)

And can anyone comment of the views that this is 'too quiet' please?
#31
I want an mp3 player as I keep changing my phone and can't be asked transferring music all the time I swap. Is there any cheap 8gb Walkmans going anywhere?

ok guys, some education

Cowon has best sound quality
Sony and Microsoft are second
Others depend on model. Apple is about the same as Creative and Samsung, but depends on Model.

I have one of these sony's with bose freeport headphones. I use 320kb VBR MP3 and the sound is pretty much state of the art.

Oh, and BTW, the radio is pretty good
#35
I bought this exact model two weeks ago from Amazon.

Sound quality is good although quite quiet even at max volume. This is to do with some sort of EU legislation that Sony are choosing to adhere to. This is not true of all Sony Walkmans though.

Also the headphones supplied with this model are poor, my girlfriend has got an older Walkman that came with excellent headphones but this one doesn't.

A good buy overall but the volume issue is grating.

Very tempted bit why no wall charger? Does the usb take ages to charge.
Was thinking of getting a w995 phone, anyone out there comment on the sound quality of the phone compared to the mp3 ?
#38
Sorry guys, another stupid question from the new person (to these devices anyway)...will I need a separate charger??? Thanks for your patience!

No they are real cx300-ll brought off Amazon. I was surprised myself at the difference in sound quality as I know the cx300 are well rated.....
