i can imagine the fail rate at 24x write speed will be phenomenal ....cheap price though. HOT.

Sony Optiarc was formed when Sony bought NEC's optical drive division, so these are even better than one would expect of the Sony brand.

I've been using NEC/Optiarc drives since 2002 with great results, and routinely write at 16x on TDK and Verbatim media.

Always burn dvd rips @ 8x

Downloads @ 1x using ImgBurn depending on what type of media you use, your get 4x - 6x speed

Cheap but I've never found this brand combination to be that reliable. Had about 10 of these go wrong within a year out of around 50 drives. Needless to say on the next batch of products we changed to a different brand.

It gave me the free shipping option but when it came time for the checkout it said it was unavailable and gave me this:

Your chosen shipping option is not available for this address. We have selected a suitable alternative & displayed your new order total
Deliver: Fri 10th Sep 2010 (3 Working Days)
Shipping: £5.09
Shipping: £5.99
SubTotal: £16.14
VAT: £2.84
Order Total: £18.98

I live in the Scottish Borders...could this have anything to do with it??

Nearly* bought a Sony AD-7241S - £15 delivered at Amazon. I assume it's only marginally different?
