why not, you can buy a 500gb HDD for around £30, install that and put the 80GB in an external enclosure.

GAME have been OOS for ages on that £200 ps3.
I have posted a deal for some 160gb bundles from ASDA direct.
amazon was also £200 but they also raised their price to 235

Sorry 'external enclosure'?? Not sure what that means!! But want it all in one box and don't want to start messing about with extra!!

got mine free - when I traded in 10 games at Gamestop about two years ago.

Then I went and got two dsi's by trading in ten more games - all courtesy of some fine trade ins/glitches with HMV, Game and Gamestop - they just do not do proper explotative offers anymore X)

Why buy a 320GB when its more than likely going to be on 3.60 or higher

When these will more than likely be on something lower than 3.55 ;)

No his talking about the extra 80Gb HDD that you would have left over from the PS3 if you were to use your brain and buy the cheapest deal and simply install your own bigger and better 2.5" SATA HDD.
His point is good and exactly what I would do if I was on the market for a PS3!
Out of interest are all PS3's still jailbreak'able or have Sony patched/fuseblown that possibility from new units, for homebrew stuff of course ;-) Cheers for any info :-)

The 80gb I got was on 2.36. Just updated it to 2.42 to play Saints Row 2. Still got the option to install Linux on it :D

Sony apparently, although having the having the technology implemented to do so, still do not blow efuses. If you aquire a PS3 on firmware 3.55 or below you can downgrade (with a dongle), 3.65 and up, you will have to wait a little while, but it will come.

I don't think so!

You'd still have an old shape PS3 with older specs that fail more often than the slim model.

I prefer the look of the older ones and my 60Gb bought on release day and my 80Gb are still going strong.

I have used my brains and don't want to open the back of a brand new PS3 and lose the warranty. Also if I use my brains I will not mess about with the internal bits of any ps3 or computer cause I wouldn't want to damage it. I will leave that to those who know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Power hungry and prone to failure.

Relax....it's alright.

You don't lose your warranty installing a new hard disk, Sony published a guide on how to do it.
The upgrade HD route is a good option and simple to do for anyone.
That said, I've got a slim and a fat one and thought I preferred the fat...until I put them side by side.
Much smaller, more modern looking, quieter, cheaper to run....I'd spend the extra.

It is really simple job and doesnt affect warranty, the extra space is great, I went from 60GB to 500GB, no more deleting game installs for me.
