Thought this one would come along after the Currys was posted :) Thanks and great if you have an Egg card!

If you make up your order with games or other, you can use the £30 off £500 discount code ;-)

dont forget u need to have had an egg card for 12 months to get the 5% off i think?

I'm not sure that you do - I got an Egg card last month to buy an LCD TV from Currys and the 5% cash back appeared on the statement. Rgds mw

Can't use the Egg through Quidco though

I see a amazon cancellation coming up - cheers for this. 391 is a lot more reasonable than 425 !! I can easily justify the expense now

Not that I've ever tried it with mine so can't speak from experience, but on the T&Cs it doesn't mention you HAVE to click through to the Dixons site using the link provided by Egg, whereas some of the other retailers do specify this, so perhaps you can still use Quidco?

CD-Wow says "You must follow the link provided by Egg to receive the discount. Transactions made directly via www.cdwow.com will not attract instant cash back."

Figleaves says: "Follow the link provided by Egg. Your discount will be shown when you check out."

But Dixons.co.uk merely states "This offer applies to online transactions with Dixons only. Your discount will be paid as instant cash back."

So perhaps you can still go through QuidCo? Not going to try it myself though, happy enough with my Wii and 360... for now!

These are gonna be so much cheaper on ebay! Talking to the manager of my local HMV this morning who informed me that they have been promised a total of 60 on launch day - and have had precisely 23 pre-orders, DESPITE havin a MASSIVE window display devoted to advertising the fact that you can pre-order the PS3 in-store! Sony = going to the great console makers graveyard.

I can confirm I've used my egg card with Dixons through Quidco several times with no problems. You don't have to click through the egg link to get instant cashback with Dixons.

bit early to call this fate on ps3. the demand might not be as great as expected but there is nothing intrinsically bad about the system to suggest that it will fail so soon. the upcoming games on the ps3 looks awesome plus sony have diffused the furore over backward compatibility with support for over 1000 games.

i've used egg card several times with dixons, and cashback was *instant*, you definitely have to use the link from egg website, not from quidco.

tempted: i may sell Wii and get one of these.

First Post but.....
Just a thought but Dixons are offering 10% off next purchase to anyone who pre-orders a PS3.
So if you wait until the code arrives you could go back in via your Egg card and get a whopping 15% off games for it.

The PS3 is £425! What do you expect? 23 preorders is still pretty good
#17
I think the code will expire on 31 July 07.

I notice your Wii Friend Code is in your Sig. Do you get many crazies sending you their Mii's?

I think this was in reference to the fact that the majority of people who are thinking of buying to sell on eBay may be disappointed when people can just stroll to their local retailer and pick them up for RRP.

Of course, there'll always be a few senseless eBayers who will probably pay £1,000 for the machine after getting caught up in the hype and not researching first!!!

Does anyone have any price drop predictions btw? Part of me says to wait for it, but then the X360 only just got a price drop recently - of about £20. So I don't think the deal here will be seen again until at least Christmas.

I know the above post was flame bait, but it's common knowlege that most game stores have had at least 80 pre-orders per store - this is above the level of pre orders seen for the 360 and Wii at launch.

Not bad considering the price, the time of year and the 18 month head start given to the 360 etc

Sony have said no price drop for 2 years. Of course i would imagine retailers will do special offers from time to time just as they've done with the 360 so far, but i wouldn't hold my breath on an official price drop.

Why was it flame bait?? I genuinely believe the PS3 WILL be cheaper than RRP on ebay as I'm convinced some stupid people have bought them thinking they will be in short supply on launch day when it's now common knowledge that they simply won't be. But only time will tell.

Nope, only by the friend code.

Just to clarify, with Quidco I can save a furher £15 from eggcard? Bringing the price right down to £375? :O
#28
What I don't understand is yes I know sony are a big company but releasing 1 million consoles on the 23rd of march would mean they have a stock pile of 500 million pounds (going by them saying cost more to produce than there selling for) worth of consoles sat somewhere. They must have atleast 3/4 of them ready already so why not release before now I think there is going to be a lot of unhappy pre-orderers out there seems too much money to have just waiting for release to the shops.

I may be proven wrong but XBOX 360 was 50k (in england) on launch I believe which is a realistic figure not 220k to 300k which people believe.

I am not convinced you can use EGG card and Quidco at the same time, others say they have done it. Proceed at your own risk!!!!

Please someone else vote this hot as its at 99c at the moment, would be well chuffed if it reached the magic 100!!!!

Great price but none of the release titles are good enough

I went to Choices UK yesterday to cancel my pre-order as they were charging £425 for the machine and it's looking more and more obvious that the machines are going to be readily available and at a cheaper price.

While I was cancelling two other people came in to do the same. The girl behind the counter told me that there had been about 10 other cancellations already this week and they're worrying about having a stock pile just in their own shop.

Have you noticed as well that there's hardly been a media scramble or advertisement blitz the way the previous machines did?
#34
I have a preorder at choices also, i've been tempted to cancel but i think i'll stick with them. Most of the better deals are internet only which involves home delivery. I've had some nightmares in the past with home delivery services (mainly Argos) so i'll stick with my local choices store, i've been guaranted one for launch day and i can pick it up as soon as the shop opens.

How much cheaper would you say? Cheaper than this deal even?
#36
I've also got a PS3 pre-ordered with Choices, but it's looking highly likely that I'm going to cancel it too. There are a lot of better deals about on the internet at the moment (if you include Quidco, vouchers etc), and I'm sure they will only get better, especially towards the end of the year at the run up to Christmas.

My local choices are opening at midnight when the PS3 is released, I wonder how many people will bother to turn up?
#37
Many thanks to OP.

Is this the cheapest price currently on offer for a PS3 console only?

Ta.

Cheekster.

Its alright finding the cheapest, its when the launch day comes and you get the email saying you will not be getting yourps3. Or the phone call . I ordered a 360 from amazon and play and was let down by both of them.

My advice would be to order from a few stores and then wait until after the launch to see which one delivers, then just refuse the others at the door.

This way if you do not accept the goods you will not have to pay for them, and uwill get your money back, when the items are returned to the retailer.

The last thin i would ever do was cancel my preorder and i ordered mine from play back in june.

What no one knows is how many are coming to the uk, another tip is if you have ordered from amazon,is make sure that you dont order anything afterwards as what they do is bundle your order together and take the order from the latest date.

I hope you all get one,but sometimes i think they onlylaunch so many on lauch date to create the frenzy.

tipsygent

recieved at 8:30 this morning as promised - delivered by DHL. Had to come into work though - cant wait to give it a go.

Well done dixons and everyone except Amazon by the sound of it !

I went through Quidco, stuck the PS3 and two games in me basket. I then went back to Egg and linked to Dixons through their cashback page and opened my basket which showed the PS3 etc.

I then shut the original Quidco Dixons window and completed the transaction on my Egg card. I can confirm that Quidco is tracking my £11.87 but the whole purchase hasn't appeared on my Egg Card statement yet so I don't know about that cashback. Hopefull will have both though.

I used the £30 off £500 voucher too so all in all not too bad a deal.

And here it is sitting on my desk just arrived!
