For those who prefer to buy from here rather than Zavvi, where it is 6p more expensive:

Zavvi Offer - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/622335/sony-playstation-3-ps3-80gb-199-95-

I have been informed by adsldave that Zavvi/Sendit are the same company, so you may as well order from here :)

To expensive for an old Phat PS3.

A 120Gb slim is only £15 more.
#2
I know the oldie is better looking but the slim is smaller, quieter, cheaper to run and obviously bigger disk capacity. If the geeks wanna hack this and hack that then good luck to them but for peeps who just want to use a PS3 as it is and not have to buy a bigger disk to hold their movies/music etc go for the slim.

If this was £150 and I didn't have one I'd be tempted but for £200 no way Jose !

That's fine guys, but I hope you aren't voting cold on that basis, it would be better not to vote, as I would class the 2 as separate products, seeing as these can do more than the Slim can, so cater for different requirements.

Thanks for the comments though.

think we are still some way from hacking the ps3

digital foundary are pretty good at analysing the hack

"In terms of what the hack is, what it isn't, and what it potentially leads to, Hotz himself suggests taking a look at yesterday's Digital Foundry article about his work, which explains the relationship between his exploit and the overall security scheme that makes PlayStation 3 one of the most hacker-unfriendly games machine ever released."

You might want to hold off buying a PS3 phat until Sony have managed to fix the massive fault they seem to have experienced...................

Anybody unable to sign into playstation network right now? Error code "8001050F"

Massive bug cripples "fat" PS3s

Do not turn on your fat PS3 today Monday 1st/2010

which console does he have, most places say it only happens when the older consoles try to change the date to 29/02/10. i tried my ps3 that i got on release day and it worked fine but it's not been updated for over a year.
#9
Expensive tbh. Other than the ability to install linux (which is pointless anyway) you might as well spend the extra 30-40 quid on a 250gb slim.

I'd LOL too, if it wasn't happening to me. Hope it's sorted soon. I'm off today and with no PS3 I've no excuse to not do all the jobs I've been putting off.

Hi
hope you guys can help me out here.
I have an old 60GB ps3 and it has recently started freezing on both games and blurays(suspecting laser fault).
My dilema is should i pay the quoted £99 to get it sorted(with 6 months warranty) or should i bite the bullet and buy a new one?
If buying new one, which model do i go for?
I only play games and watch movies,no modding or anything as that stuff is way over my head.
Hope someone can help, thanks.

Its on its way to a YLOD by the sounds of it. If you are just after games and blu's, get the 120GB Slim.

do psn games work? if they do then it is most likely impending YLOD .. else if it is blu-ray then

trade in in at Game.. i think you get a pretty good price for it.. i wouldn't sell it on ebay because there will be some kid who ends end with a ps3 that will stop working..

Yeah better to trade it through GAME then the sorry kid can claim on the 1 year warranty GAME give you on 2nd user consoles. The only problem with GAME is they give you the trade in value put on to a GAME card, if you want cash they give you sod all for your console.

RIVERKING:

I recently swapped the laser lens out on my US launch 60gb PS3 as it was freezing constantly while playing Modern Warfare. Cost me about £40 from ebay. KES-400AAA was the part I needed.

There are various tutorials on youtube relating to taking the ps3 apart and replacing the laser lens.

Mine now works absolutely fine. Just be careful with the lens and whatever you do, do not leave a disc in the drive when you take it apart!! Took me ages sorting out that little issue I created for myself.

Best deal on a 120gb slim anyone? My gf wants one now!

by the time you receive your ps3 the bug has gone.. the bug is linked to today only and should disappear tomorrow..

it's a leap year bug that isn't to dissimlar to the one that affected zunes

You can change the date on your console and reset and the problem doesn't fix itself. You can't connect to the internet because of the bug so I have no idea how it would be fixed that way if you've already turned it on like me...

got the trade in deal the last week i.e old 40GB, paid £30 and got brand new 160GB with 4 games and new dual shock3 pad.
Happy days :)

btw will people stop acting silly........its not like fat ps3's will be unfunctional for ever, their going to sort it out.

i mean if every fat ps3 got YLOD then id probably be leading the rants but its only a minor bug......i can understand how hard it can be without a day of ps3 but get over it.

not the greatest deal in the world.

i just got a 250gb slim from GAME to replace my YLOD'd 60GB, for £240 (was £290 with two games but had one and wasnt interested in the other so traded them in - and GAME also gave me a £200 voucher after i complained under SOGA so £40 for me)
