Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 Console with 40GB HDD
PS3 is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realised through the combination of Cell and RSX processors. Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network.

Equipped with basic input/output ports, PS3 supports a broad range of displays from conventional NTSC/PAL standard TVs to the latest full HD (1080i/1080p) flat panel displays, offering the joy of the most advanced computer entertainment contents to homes around the world. For use in living rooms, maximum heat and noise reduction has been achieved with a noise level equivalent to that of the current slim-line PlayStation 2. With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PS3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

Grand Theft Auto IV
What does the American Dream mean today? For Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and are dragged in a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don't.

I didn't mind 'blu-ray fanboys' entering threads. We are all equals and should be treated as such. However, the times I got 'upset' was because of people deliberately trying to derail a topic with biased opinions, desperately trying to stop people getting cheaper deals.

I was only posting a cheaper option, a hundred pound saving is a hot deal afterall!

not im afraid it doesnt

It does when software is bundled sometimes. The 360 should track, I'm not sure about the PS3 however. Best to try though! In it to Win it

It's a what box? It's not going to be a PS3 at under £200 :?

nope that doesnt work
#13
ps3 <> xbox 360 so yes you are derailing the topic. please don't derail the topic.. keep on topic because this is a deal about a ps3 in the same sense that all those hd dvd posts are about hd dvd and not blu-ray

You were posting a cheaper inferior option, like posting a deal for a clapped out old 2nd hand skoda* in a thread for a brand new Aston Martin.

*mind you i expect the clapped out 2nd hand skoda is more reliable than the RROD plagued 360.
#15
I would snap up a 360 "again" if the failure rate wasn't so high on them. I got the RROD 3 times before selling it.
#16
I can't wait to read comparative reviews of the 360 and PS3 versions of GTA. Especially as I was very tempted to get a PS3 whilst my 360 was in the funeral home. Thankfully it arrived back on Wednesday - Actually got my own machine back which was nice, but looks like they replaced literally everything but the kitchen sink.. Problem is I didn't bother preordering GTA in case I didn't get it back in time and now I might struggle for launch day :-(

My main assumptions: PS3 faster load times, 360 better online - Both will be great though.
#17
thanks! this looks like awesome deal!!!

I'd imagine picking it up on launch day wont be a problem if you are willing to pay instore prices.

I'll be picking up my copy either on the way to work on the 29th if i'm not sad enough to actually pop along to the supermarket at midnight  - hoping for a price war
#19
I didn't get round to pre-ordering. This means desperation has made me sad enough to travel to supermarket at midnight. Never done anything like this before. This game will break every record on the books.

GTA IV has no loading times except at first start up, otherwise there are in reality no loading waits for new missions, levels etc, everything is instant and progressive. There are no differences in graphical detail. However, if you're looking for the complete GTA experience the 360 version is better as you'll get the the episodic content which will add about 10 hours of playing time.

Actually it's like posting a classic car when the deal was for a new Citroen Saxo with an F1 engine. The PS3 has lovely hardware but a poor price point and a very poor selection of games. Granted there are more to come, however I think whomever posted the XBox link was doing people a favour in giving them a viable alternative with a huge back-cat of games and an incredible online experience.

The Xbox 360 will have EXCLUSIVE Downloadable Content for GTA4 and a testimonial; I have 3 360s in my house since launch - not a single RROD. Please do not be a fanboy.

You may well have 3 360's but that doesnt hide the fact these things have a dreadfull failure rate...

http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/02/19/gdc-demo-kiosk-xbox-360-suffers-red-ring-of-death/

The Red Ring of Death problem on Xbox 360s is over isn’t it? Well, Microsoft would have you believe so, to make sure it doesn’t lose any more ground against the PS3 and Wii, but unfortunately the evidence on very public display suggests otherwise. All of the big companies are currently showing off their wares at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, but it seems Microsoft seem determined to show the bad side of their hardware as well as the good.
Darren Waters, editor of dot.life, the BBC News technology blog, was wondering around Microsoft’s stands at the event, and in amongst people trying out games on demo consoles, was an Xbox 360 suffering from the dreaded, and supposedly cured Red Ring of Death.
Waters did what any self respecting technology blogger would do, and instead of informing someone in charge of the stand, videoed the evidence, and embedded it via Blip.tv on the site. Here is the footage he filmed:

Oops, that’s not a good piece of marketing, either for those industry people attending the conference, or those of us in the wider world, now that the footage is out to all and sundry.
As Waters himself says,
“There’s no way of knowing if this particular console was manufactured before or after Microsoft identified the problems with the machines.”
“But at the very least it’s embarrassing for the company that its own stock of demo machines are still susceptible to the problem.”
Embarrassing is putting it mildly, and more worrying could this mean that the problem hasn’t been entirely solved at all?
Remember that this is the problem deemed so serious, and unspinnable, that Microsoft has committed to spending upwards of $1 billion to fix it.
And now that it’s even affecting the company’s own demo machines, there’s no chance of hiding the fact that the failure rate of Xbox 360s is still much higher than rivals Wii and Playstation 3. Maybe this is one of the reason Xbox sales are falling, while the other two machines are enjoying a healthy increase?

---

oh and...

As we all know, the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 will be getting exclusive downloadable content sometime after the game's release. As of now though, nothing has been announced for the PS3. Well an article in the latest version of PlayStation World Magazine states that the PS3 will indeed be getting downloadable content. This information comes straight from GTA 4's senior developer, Jeronimo Barrera. No details were given, unfortunately, but that alone is still good news.

Thats just retarded. I dont blame you for thinking what you think... youve spunked hundreds on xbox hardware so i cant see why you would bother to look at the Ps3.

The price point is not weak at all when you consider what you get out of the box.

An awsome games system with hard drive (360 is £190)
Blu ray player (£200+)
Wireless (£55 for xbox one)
Rechargable controllers (have to use batteries or pay for the rechargable bits for 360)
Free Online gaming (£30 a year for 360)

A ton of awsome games available to play.

Good deal for something that's going to be like gold dust on the 29th.

Then dont look in this thread as there are cheaper ps3's about without bundled games.

PS: Voted cold, cheaper to buy an xbox and the game.
