Depends what miserable sod checks out your post ;-)

Not a bad deal, if your just after the console, but your better buying a bundle for £280-300 really, since you can get 2 games, blu ray remote, etc. or also seen some bundles with 3 games; eitherway it will work out cheaper in the end. (unless u really hate the bundled games) then buy this single console.

Zavvi might go lower right if no1 buys maybe to £200?
#10
really under-rated console.

It also has one of the top-spec blu-ray players on the market.

Well worth it, there are great titles too like LBP.

In answer to your will it come down in price well it depends if there are any left in stock.
If there are they will.

Wait a week or so, it'll be at 40% soon, all of the stores will close by the end of February.

Do Zavii allow student discount on consoles?
#12
No more student discount unfortunately

I got vouchers worth £140 and I can't use it..:x

I got mine for £200 brand new on Sunday from a friend that got it free with his mobile phone contract. :)

I've then bought 5 games off eBay sellers which have all arrived as new costing from £6 to £14.
I didn't realise that the Playstation Network is free to join and has loads of free content, games demos etc with hours of entertainment. I've also rigged it up to the mac to deliver Photos, Music and Video from there over the wireless network to the TV. Works a treat.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to get one.

I'd still say you're better off going for the £290 deals with games etc that are around - you can trade the games in if you don't like them.

Dont normally do this but ive voted cold. For an extra £50 you can get 2 games, 1 blu-ray and a remote control @ Game (deal already posted). Even if you dont want the extras, you can easily make back the extra £50 spent by selling the 'add-ons'.

Better (or as good) Blu-ray players are available between £100 and £150.

What if you've only got £250 to spare at the moment, but want a ps3 (and get games or movies later)? It's a good deal if you want the console only, as I don't think there is another store out there where you can get an 80gb brand new for that price. I mean, gamestation are still selling 2nd hand 40gb models for that price.

Blimey! 17 posts before the first 360 fanboy appears on a PS3 thread.

Is this a record? ;-)

Erm, how is the poster a 360 fanboy? I agree with the post.

I have a US PS3 for US Bluray discs, because it was a good price when standalone bluray players were costing the earth and there wasn't many bluray movies in the UK market. That has since changed. I now have a UK bluray player for UK discs.

Two main shortcomings of PS3 as bluray player are that it's loud and it doesn't output HD audio as bitstream. Yes, PS3 can decode HD audio and send as PCM to amp, but not as good as my amp doing the decoding.

You can get a Sony s350 bluray player for about £160.

Do not buy a PS3 if your only use is for a bluray player.

And no comments about PS3 is upgradable via firmware etc.. my standalone bluray has a lan port connected to my home network that updates firmware too and connects to internet for profile 2.0 discs.

Good deal. I guess ths will now be the standard price for PS3's?

No, it's cos Zavvi are in administration.

I saw this deal last weekend at my local Zavvi but didn't post cos I knew there would be furious complaints that it wasn't as good a deal as the bundles and that it wasn't a XBOX360 blah blah The Stones were better than the Beatles etc etc. IMHO it's a good deal if you want a PS3 for multimedia only - there's plenty of PS3 owners who don't own 1 single game.
My local still has loads of PS3's so I reckon they may go down further before Zavvi go kaput...

Whats a 360 got to do with it? they are saying there are just cheaper blu-ray players on the market!

sounds like there is a fanboy about though :whistling:

COLD from me...its just not good value when there are good bundles about and to the poster above somewhere...why on Earth would you buy a console and then use it to do nothing without any games?? thats just silly!

Can you play games on your stand alone Bluray player? :whistling: The deal is for a PS3, not a Bluray player.

I was giving serious consideration to the PS3 as a means of providing Blu Ray functionality. When standalone players were costing £200 the games console part of the PS3 looked like a really good added bonus for not much more cash. I imagine Sony benefitted from quite a few "incidental" purchasers because of that. Now the players are costing less and the price gap is widening, it's a market (not necessarily huge - who knows) that I expect they will lose.

That said, this looks a good way to get the "no frills" console (and by just walking in store).

I was under the impression that the audio quality would be identical, the only difference being that the DTS/True HD lights on your receiver won't light up as they are not doing the decoding.

Why would you want the console only without any games? It would just gather dust if your gonna get the games/movies later!

Just wait another month for that extra £50. If you have £250 to spend on just a console (which without any games is just a blu-ray player and potential media hub) im sure waiting another month wont hurt especially as the RRP price might fall (doubtful) during that month or better offers will be found (likely).

If this was £200 without any games then it would be great but its not and like i said, better of paying the extra £50 difference for 2 games, a blu-ray movie and blu-ray player remote control.

Go ask on the AVForums and Whathifi forums. I was going to say that I personally wouldn't use a console for media playing only, but I've just realised that my original Xbox is 98% used for media playing so I'd be lying. One of the guys I work with just uses PS3 for Blueray ,mp3s and watching downloading films.

I just bought the 160GB PS3 from Currys with 3 games plus 4 downloadable games for £307. It was originally £341 but my mate works there so I got a bit of discount.
