You should be fine for a year wherever you buy it from due to a 1 year Sony warranty.
But if it fails from a mechanical problem after that time, just use the Sales of Goods Act to get a free repair or replacement.

Would be true if Play were based in the UK, but they're not.

What a corker... Ordered for the den

I purchased my Phatty 40gb from Play.com in Dec 07. It broke after about 10 months and Sony fixed it.
I think the 28 days thing is about returning it to Play.com after that it is Sony UK who will handle problems. Personally I would leave Play.com out of the loop and go to Sony, they are pretty quick.
#7
With regards to warranty keep proof of purchase and go straight to Sony, will be no problem 1 year from day of purchase.
#8
is really worth selling the ps3 slim for this as they are the same thing really?
#9
Play are registered in the UK so by law they have to give you a 1 year guarantee.

No its not worth it what so ever. Just buy the move pack separately.

And you can also argue the Sale of Goods Act for the console breaking down within 6 years of owning with the store if you did not cause the fault and it was inherent.

Seriuosly tempted to get one of these now, but don't know if I should hold off nearer to Christmas when there will be many deals.

Hot, cancelled game preorder and got it, thanks OP.

I wouldnt expect the price on the Move bundle itself to shift much, especially since it will most likely sell very well with so many people currently owning a ps3 anyway. Xmas deals will be the usual console + 3 chart games for a better discounted price.

Still not under £200.
When it does go under £200, then that would be a fair price for a 3 years+ old console.

The Lamborghini Murcielago is a 9 year old car, and i'm so disappointed that it's not under £1,000 yet :(

Sell the move starter pack, sell the drive and get a smaller one.
And.....BINGO under £200

Yes you are probably right, might just splash the cash.

It seems as if there is an hdd size arms race going on. Whenever Microsofts is getting near Sony will bump up the hdd size. I wish we had these sizes from the beginning.

Under £200? Is the £200 pricetag for the 250GB version of Microsoft's five-year-old console fair, then? Or £250 for a 4GB console with Kinect?

Actually this is because the smaller hdd sizes are less frequently being made by manufacturers so it will cost them more.

Also the starter pack on its own is here for anyone who needs/wants to compare it.

£160 for the 360S in gloss with superior Wifi tech but still.

Are people really that interested in the motion controller stuff? So far its been buggy and unresponsive.
Be nice if someone could find a sub-£200 non move bundle.
#23
Tempted, but dot need one till december so may hold off till than, also see if move is any good!!

To the guy moaning about price, sony's price has always been fair.. at first they made a loss on every ps3 sold, what more can you ask for, now they are makeing a profit but not much, as the hardware is the ps3 is high end even by todays standards. this is a very good price, as i dont need one right now i'd wait to see if they bundle any other games with the motion pack. if its this price in 3 months time i'd buy it, if its less even better, hope they bring out a good tennis game and a good boxing game by christmas

@ kingsCross .. wow the xbox get wireless "n", now i have to rush out and get one because it the only thing its been lacking all this time, at lunch 360 lacked, HDMI, Wifi, Rechargeable controllers as standard, a built in hard drive, and High Def video disk play back... oh wait.. you could have purchased a:

Hard drive £70 20GB
wifi - £60 b/g

HD-DVD - £130 (which is dead in the water now)

HD video cables £25

PS3 had wifi / 60GB HDD / Blu-ray / HDMI / induilt toslink / free online stuff.

ref: buggy part - lets see how kenect does

Yep the wi-fi is better, but at the same time, so is a decent homeplug adapter, and you can use any device with an ethernet port with one. As for the "gloss", its not better, its just there to satisfy the chavs.

"Are people really that interested in the motion controller stuff? So far its been buggy and unresponsive." - KINECT might be like that, but MOVE however actually works for the most part. All motion control tech will have bugs, but from what I've seen of Kinect it looks set to be a disaster. I've yet to see a tech demo where there hasnt been a huge bug that prevents people from using it properly.

It's still early days for this kind of technology. Its the same with things like LED backlit screens, even after being on the market a year or 2 they are still very flawed.

Also, @ Met-Cast, your post has helped me understand why MS include such pointlessly huge HDDs in their consoles :) My 250gb elite is still pretty much at full capacity since Microsoft dont understand the concept of using a console as a media server.

You can get the 250 GB for around £170, if that makes it any better

LOL, thanks for giggle.. the 360s has 150mbps wireless N, that's 3 YEAR OLD wireless N technology, if it was up to date theyd've given it 300mbps which is standard in most laptops these days (even my mrs acer netbook has that). So the 360s is still crap for HD streaming (I'd have to downgrade my router confirgiration to be able to even see it), the PS3 has gigabit ethernet so we're happy as larry.... :-)

Its one year from play and i can guarantee you that, as I've returned stuff 9months old and the last time i checked the Channel islands are part of the British isles, which means they apply our laws and if it was part of Europe then it would be 2years or more as we get the raw deal with warranty compared to the other EU countries.

It still amazes me the thickness of some forum members they spout rubbish on stuff they know nothing about. To these people do us a favour and shut your mouths unless you are sure.

The British Isles
The expression "British Isles" is geographical and not political. They are a group of islands off the northwest coast of Europe consisting of Great Britain, the whole of Ireland, the Orkney and Shetland Islands, the Isle of Man, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Wight, the Scilly Islands, Lundy Island, the Channel Islands and many other smaller islands. A list of the main islands of Great Britain is to be found on another page on this site.

Who cares? They were priced at totally different price points so had different features at launch.

PS3 fanboys are so insecure its hysterical, no doubt the same people can't wait to exploit the recent hack ignoring the fact they are slaughtering the system they claim to love so much and handing victory to Microsoft in the process. LOL.

Samsung Bluray player with 6 bluray films £90 and a 360 if you choose a new slim one £140-£170 so there you go much better and under your budget. Ask yourself whats better 1 item that has all the things to go wrong with or 2 devices, Which means when one thing goes wrong you don't loose both devices. With a PS3 they are a jack of all trades master of none. The hardware of the PS3 is far better than the 360 but why are the games not as good, This is a question that's bugged me since the start and I'm no fanboy as i have both consoles and i wouldn't swap my 360 for the PS3, The 360 may be unreliable but they are cheap and the games are much better with a bigger selection and much more playable.

So considering that the PS3 is £225 (At Shopto) then the 360 is more expensive with the Blu-Ray player. And that's not including the Live subscription. Nice fail.

Ask yourself whats better 1 item that has all the things to go wrong with or 2 devices

What has this got to do with which one is better?

Not sure if serious?
Care to let us know which game is the most recent unanimous Game of the Year?

This is a question that's bugged me since the start and I'm no fanboy as i have both consoles and i wouldn't swap my 360 for the PS3, The 360 may be unreliable but they are cheap and the games are much better with a bigger selection and much more playable.

They are cheap for a reason, because they are inferior. Much more playable how? On both consoles you just sit there and play them, unless you play them while doing a handstand or something.

And i did lol at the usual "I'm not a fanboy because i have both consoles" ultimate repetitive quote of the century.
