It's a bit shocking that Sony don't include this in the box with the 12GB models to be honest but if you need one then HMV have them back in stock and priced £2 cheaper than Amazon.

...and if you are planning on installing a 1TB drive...

A few others & I had been trying to install 1TB (Samsung) hard drives into our 12GB Flash Memory Super Slim PS3 consoles recently.

Initially we all had issues, but I happened upon a solution, documented here:

and

Note that in the last link, the issue was reported with a Hitachi 1TB drive as well.

I have a feeling that these things are going to become like rocking horse manure in the new year.

Quite easy to make a temp solution; I used a loop of thin string around the drive (to make it easy to pull back out) and some wedges of folded card on all four sides. Worked a treat whilst I was waiting for my enclosure to arrive from HMV. :)

I've heard that some people have been coming up with some interesting homebrew alternatives. :)

I think it's also possible to modify one of the old HDD brackets to fit into the super-slim if you have a spare one.

For the sake of £7.99 and doing it properly, I don't see the point of doing a permanent bodge job. It was only because my PS3 arrived and the caddy hadn't yet, that did a temporary fix.

I think it was because these things have been hard to find at a decent price since the super-slim came out and it's only now that stocks are being updated.

I think it is a bit woeful on Sony's behalf not to include this though. Unless you're only buying the console for the occasional party game of Singstar or some similar rubbish then 12GB isn't much good to anyone.

1TB "FTW"

Not too sure about that tbh. When I had a 640GB drive in my PS3 it went really slow. I think you'd have to be careful over the 1TB drive that you choose.

will a bracket from phat ps3 fit the slim?

most probably no. my old 40gb fat ps3 mounted the hdd side ways into the console. Thus it cant be used in a slim which mounts head on

Does anyone knows the LAN speed on the new Slim PS3

Why would/should sony include this with the ps3? Clearly they would prefer if people paid extra for the 500GB verion and so it would be stupid for them to include a bracket with the 12GB for people to source their own HDD...

I've made my own prop and have no intention of buying a bracket. Unnecessary double dip ploy by Sony

Because the 12GB on it's own is basically useless.

Have to agree that Sony would have been crazy to include this, surely the whole point of the smaller sized version is for people who want to save money and still be able to use the PS3 to a certain extent.

It makes good business sense to make something that eventually needs upgrading as then you have add on sales....the same as with all consoles really, otherwise they would all come packaged with 2 controllers a remote control, an HDMI lead etc etc,,,

Yeah I suppose you're right and at least Sony will let you use any Hdd you like unlike a certain other console manufacturer.

Picked mine up today in market street, central Manchester and they still had loads of them left.
#26
Has anyone received theirs by delivery? it says out of stock.
#27
Mine states it was shipped on the 6th I ordered on the 4th. Still not here, we'll see what today brings.
#28
This is not 'click and collect' (no option to do so anywhere on the product page) but they had 3 in my local store so I bought one earlier. Good price...
#29
It let me do click and collect when I bought mine nearly a month ago but it looks like they have removed that option now.
#30
Just ordered online, thanks.
#31
Yep, this is now back in stock for delivery and C&C.
