Good price. I'm tempted to go for this but they aren't compatible with the new HD Freeview coming this month which is annoying. I dont know if Sony are going to release one that is either. Boo!

Might be available with a firmware upgrade but I'm not sure how the Freesat works, if it requires different hardware or not.
#3
Will not work with UK DVB-T2 but would work with HD in Europe.

im thinking of selling mine (boxed with everything it comes with) for £35 delivered. if there is any interest ill open up a fs thread.

Not freesat! But HD Freeview. I doubt an upgrade will convert Freeview SD to HD. This is probably why these are going down in price as they will release a new HD version. That said my kids have this on their play station and it turns it into a great PVR!

Btw the playstation now has BBC i player anyway

Currently it upscales SD freeview to HD, but obviously upscaled SD is not as good as true HD. I find upscaled BBC looks really good, but some other channels look a bit over-compressed. There has also been an upgrade to decode one type of freeview HD, but I understand that is not the format the UK will be getting.

I have my freeview coming in through a sky box and connected through scart. When i watch tv i have to switch over to AV1 while ps3 is on HDMI1.Would this work recording off the scart input?

I sold mine about a month after purchase, when I realised it would never support HD, and my hard drive was full.

does this work with a psp go and a ps3? what exactly can it do? (whats the benefits?)

i know more or less what it does now, it would be purely for used with the pspg o - would it still be worthwhile getting it? aslo would need to know for def if it will work with psp go

You can record on the PS3 and copy to your PSP to watch....and you can put your PS3 in "remote play" mode, and then use the PSP on the same network, or over the internet, and then control the PS3, and I think use it as a PVR.

I'm not helping am I?

I find it too daunting to have the PS3 on for hours for gaming..then hours for streaming from PC and then to have it on for a TV as well :-(

maybe im just paranoid.

VERY HOT PRICE though great find

No - It was reduced on Thursday (03/12/2009) from £44.98 to £39.98. It has been this price before but not for a while now.

And it does receive HD if you live in a country that is using DVB-T (1) as it's broadcasting standard. Well after Play Tv was designed and launched, OfCom decided that the UK would launch Freeview HD using the DVB-T2 standard - which currently there is no equipment on the market that can receive it. Despite having been launched on Dec 2nd.

Aparently new DVB-T2 set top boxes, PVRs and TVs will be released early next year. I expect that Sony will release a new version of Play TV. As the diference is in the hardware tuner, I doubt there is a way they can upgrade the existing Play TV via software to receive Freeview HD.

Any questions?

well, where I live isn't getting freeview HD until 2011 anyway, so it doesn'T bother me that much. For those of you curious, there is a link to a PDF on this page that gives a rundown of when different places will be getting HD - If you are not in a big city, don't hold your breath.
