Silver PRS-300 use code 5OFFHMV40 to get £5 off. Go via quidco for 2% cashback.

Take your favourite books with you wherever you go with the Reader Pocket Edition™. Ultra light and small enough to fit in your pocket, it features a 5" paper-like display for easy reading - whether you're commuting, travelling or relaxing at home. With a highly advanced screen technology, that is gentle on the eye, with five adjustable font sizes to improve readability. The E Ink® Vizplex™ display gives a more natural paper-like reading experience. With no backlight or flicker, you can read for hours in direct sunlight and at virtually any angle.
PRS-300 Reader can help you find the page your were last reading, and call up stored novels by author, title and date. The intuitive and easy to use controls let you magnify text, scroll smoothly down and read page-by-page or fast forward right to the end.
Most importantly, PRS-300 Reader is lighter than a typical paperback and you can easily store hundreds of titles in your bag or pocket to take with you wherever you go.

oh I have to laugh cos I ordered one of these in November from HMV as a Christmas present for myself and surprise surprise they never delivered it so I think I'll pass on this as HMV have a terrible track record for taking orders they never fill

+1. HMV have done it twice recently on Sony ereaders. Continue taking orders for days after the stock has gone, then one week later cancel all the orders. Not even a good offer IMHO. Poor deal from an incompetent company. Buyer beware, so cold from me.

EDIT

Upon reflection, if you can get the Sony 300 at this price (and IMO it's a BIG IF), then it's cheap and a good deal. Worth bearing in mind that both the new Kindle and the next gen Sony 350/650 models use the latest e-ink technology with improved contrast, less glare, font definition etc etc. If you want the best for your peepers, then it may be worth spending more.

I got one from the USA a bit back, they are great to use. Use Calibre to get the books on to the device and manage them.

I went into the Sony shop in The Metro Centre to ask about a backlight, they stated they do not
stock bits and bobs for older models. Ebay does though.

Good price if you can get one from this dealer..

Good price, but If I wanted an e-reader I'd probably go with a Kindle

There does seem to be a split between fans of Kindle vs Sony et al. I'd always go for a reader that can handle epub files so you can download for free from the library. I have the model up from this one (Sony PRS-350) and can't fault it.

Actually, I can answer my own question. Calibre does not recognise drm protected files; they must be managed through the Sony Reader software when you download them from the library.

there are methods for removing the drm on ebooks...

This is the old model in case anybody else was wondering.... Not voting either way, but I have the new one and it was well worth the £100 I paid.

I'll probably be shot down for recommending a REFURB (dah-dah-dah dummmm!) but Hyperfi in Romford have this model in pink or silver for £69.99 (free collection or £9.82 delivery if elsewhere) or the much better PRS350 (I picked up one of these last week and LOVE IT!) for £89.99 (+£9.82 delivery if required).

They also have the PRS600 for £99.99 in black, silver or red if you wanted something a bit bigger - all refurbs but I can confirm mine was in mint condition and they said it's covered by a years manufacturers guarantee and can be taken to their shop or any Sony Centre to be fixed if required. :) I should really post it as a deal but I just know I'll be shot down by Kindle fans and refurb haters!!

Should've put before... recommendation was based on people's earlier comments that HMV fail to deliver and also to point out the much improved model is only £20 more expensive.
#22
Complete, will be despatched in accordance with selected shipping option

looks good this time, maybe the will fullfill?
#23
