This is a fantastic camera & a great deal!

Well spotted...
Is this the one that does panaramic shots, and would it be any better than the lumix TX7
I chose this camera over the TZ7 and very glad I did. It's amazing. This is an absolutely incredible price and should get super hot.
I have had this camera for 3 months. I cant understand those people that complain. At this price it's a steal and I can't see how you could be disappointed.
Yep, I looked at the Canon and Samsung equivs - all 3 have bad (and good) reviews of photo quality, and cameras themselves. Colleague has the Sony after being an Ixus user for many years, and says the build quality is much better (vs the other two). Metal casing is always a start...

Waiting for the super-heat to arrive...
so you actually fork out £219 instore then wait for a £30 cheque to arrive?

hot price.
Bizarre. I will try and get back down to a local store this week - I didn't buy at the time, as they had none of the reclaim leaflets left (linked above) so i needed to check I wasn't going insane...
How does this compare to the Canon SX210?
Amazing price though!
ETA: Hendon store say 299, as did head office...

I had this camera but I sold it on as too many of the shots were out of focus and the colours didn't look as natural as they are on my older canon ixus 100. This might be down to the fact it only supports servo AF when in sports mode and in that mode flash is disabled so taking shots of an active 2yr old was difficult. The canon always seems to be in focus though.

The video was good though, but it is interlaced, and the 10fps is impressive but maybe they just crammed a little too much into this small camera?
I think I will be looking at the Canon SX210 too, as I loved my old Powershot and the photos never let me down, either that or the Panasonic TZ7 given all the great reviews, the Sony looked and felt good, but at nearly £100 more than the Panny, it's not worth it.
Which is why this is prospectively a great deal.
What do you guys think about the TZ7/10?
I was looking at buying a TZ7 but I am considering this HX5V, however the amazon reviews look pretty damming, I would hate to spent this kind of money and feel let down by photos that were not as good as an old 3mp camera, I look at a lot of old albums today, and some of the clearest ones were taken by my old 2mp Canon powershot, I just can't work out how cameras with the resolution of 10/12mp can possibly return negitive results from so many users. To be fair to the sony, the rest all have their detractors too, I will by one of them, but I feel it's a lottery, as each has it's pros and cons, at this point I am swaying back to the TZ7 though, as it has the most positive feedback from many sites.

Know where you're coming from. For years I couldn't find anything to better my old 5MP Sony DSC-P100. And even compared to an HX5V I'd have to say it's a close run thing which can take better daylight photos. The HX5V is just SOOO more versatile for day to day use with HD video, 10x zoom, large LCD etc etc. I'll still be keeping my P100 for the odd occasion. What these travel zoom cameras are trying to do is be a jack of all trades in a small size. Any one of them have their downsides.

The HX5V is a great camera and IMHO scores over the TZ7/10 in low light performance, battery life, 1080i HD video and sweep-panorama. It has a slightly shorter zoom length though and there are a few other minor gripes I have (e.g. the position of the one-touch video record button is right where you want to put your thumb when holding it).

Which store verified that price?
I went in to my local today and it's not this model at £219 but a 14.1mp one. Never mind. :(
