The Sony eReader Pocket Edition (PRS-300) is a slim and compact device you should be able to carry anywhere and with the 5 inch eInk screen's paper-like readability you'll be able to read the screen even in direct sunlight. You can choose one of three text sizes to make reading as easy as possible on your eyes. You'll be able to carry as many as 350 books on the internal memory and read as much as 6,800 pages between charges. Included is a carrying pouch and USB Cable. and a variety of covers and other accessories are available. Also available in Pink.

This has a super screen and is the smallest/most compact of the ereaders. It is also made out of metal, so is a nice quality device.

I was playing with one of these in Waterstones last night.

I guessing it was bust, because if it's supposed to flash the screen black and white every time you turn a page they aren't going to sell many. . .

yea I had a go on one of the larger ones and thought the same thing, it also seemed very slow and sluggish. I like the idea but think I'll hold off on these for a few years until the technology catches up with my expectations:)

I have to disagree. these are really good. i had a PRS-505 and read loads on it.
Firstly its easy on the eye as its passive (like a real book)
it can hold 100s of books, which means you don't have to carry them around + you can read more then one book at the same time (bit by bit) - a whole new way of looking at reading
sony can read epub, so you can use the guttenberg library for 10,000s of non-copyrighted classics for free.
you can also read PDF on it, so my camera and mobile phone manuals go on for reading on the train and reference
You need to look at one in the shop and see what you think. this is great for portability.
for reading, probably a bigger screen is better, but i would go A4 with the Kindle DX (not available in the UK0 or the Irex (really expensive).

These are all still massively overpriced. I quite fancy one, but I can wait until they come down to well below the £100 mark. Which they will, within a year or two.

Thanks for posting, though.

Guys, just an update on this

I picked the wife one up in store and they are now giving you a £20 voucher as well for waterstones to buy some books.

Also I picked up a reward card and got about 5 quid on that as well in just this one purchase so £25 to spend on ebooks :)
