  Just read that the new remote is only out in Japan, so unless anyone can verify where to get the new one in the UK for anything like the price of this one, I think it's a steal!

  The new one is also out in the US. It has volume & channel controls at the bottom, a PS button and the ability to control other devices like the TV and an amp. It also has infa-red and bluetooth rather than just bluetooth. This is a great price for the old one though if you don't need those things.

  It's also out in the USA. When I got mine a couple of months ago there was very little info about. The new one feels much less chunky and the layout is better. I think mine worked out at about £18 in the end.
  
  Got a lukewarm response last time, but if you can still buy it directly from Amazon.com (rather than a merchant) then they did ship to the UK.

  For those that don't know, it's quite possible if you have a HDTV with CEC control that you can use your TV remote to watch Blu-Rays, navigate the menus etc:

  You might find a few buttons are missing. My old Sharp did it fairly well, although the lack of a PS button was a nuisance if you used any apps like Lovefilm. My newer LG can't do it, I think it might be able to power the PS3 on via HDMI control but that's it.
  
  @thevoice, short of not sitting on it, you can toggle the newer remote into TV or AMP mode when not in use and therefore it won't just switch the playstation on.

  Good point. I've asked my parents to bring me one back from Canada anyway, I have the 'old' version but it'd be nice to see what the new one is like. Can always sell it if it doesn't suit me; the smaller Play/Pause etc buttons may annoy me a bit.

  Its really annoying. The amount of times I've thought the PS3 was on and it was because of that stupid feature.

  Of course it uses batteries. It's far more convenient than using a controller though, and also means you're not putting wear-and-tear on a £30+ controller with a built-in battery.
