Some good news for those with surround sound systems about the new ps3 slim:

im happy with my 60gb but very tempted just for power consumption the big ps3 seems like it drains loads of energy and makes my whole room hot ..

Dont HMV do online student discount for NUS and NUS extra card holders? that would knock it down to sendit price wouldnt it?

if you wait a year it will be even cheaper, or if you can wait try 3 years it might be £99 by then.

I thought that with the new price drop, the price of the pS3 was $299 (for the 120GB version)? Perhaps my math [sic] is wildly wrong, but with the £/$ exchange rate around 1.64 or 1.65, the price in sterling should be around, say £185 (give or take a few pounds), no?! Even for allowing for extra profit from us, they could charge £199 but NO, £249 - what a rip-off! :x

Having said that, no offence to the OP  for taking the time to post what could well be the best deal AVAILABLE.

I will reserve heat for now.:whistling:

cant comment on quantum of solace but that imo is so not true.

Far-Cry 2 is not perfect but is a great game, and whilst Assassins creed is the same thing repeated over and over, i also played that through to completion.

I know the ps3 port of AC isnt the best, but still......... for freebies both are worthy games to sit through to completion.

Yes, while the US version is cheaper, it does exclude tax, it still means we are paying £20-£30 more but heyho were used to it in the UK aren't we!
Expect lots of good bundles over the next few months, of both the "old" shape and new slim version with extra controllers and games, Uncharted 2 maybe, or GT5:thumbsup:

You could always wait 5 years and pick it up for a tenner, by that time PS4 will be out
#20
Let's see...

First off was a 60Gb version, with 4 x USB, memory card slots and b/ward compatability.
Then a cut-down 40Gb version, then an 80Gb version, now 120gb version in a different case. (might have missed out a few one-off 'special' bundles there)

Not counting releasing a dualshock controller after the launch date (genius), charging extra for a BR remote and sitting thru endless HDD installs and upgrades. As for Home...lets not go there eh.

How do I polish thine turd? Let me count the ways......

It doesn't exclude tax, US has a sales tax of 5% (I think) whereas we have VAT at 15%.

In Europe it is €299 so with today's exchange rate (1.154) would come to £259, so in fact have reduced it further in GB because of the weakening pound. I think we all know we can not compare our prices to the US, in the past I remember it being a near straight conversion, ie. if $299 in US, it would be £299 in UK. So NO, not a rip off. However I hear on AVF a number of people getting £199 on old PS3 at Gamestation by price matching CEX exchange prices, therefore £50 on top for a new slim.

America does have sales tax, but they also have city / state tax too.

If i remember, New York was like 8% in total

mental? so if you saw two shops, ps3 in one for 250 and ps3 in other for 200 you'd go for the 250 one? everyone wants the price to go down, less money from my pocket...makes sense doesn't it?

of course but the price drop just happened, it aint suddenly going to go down to £200 in the next few days. hotdeals is for deals now, not in a month or 2.

There's also a tax payable for the importation of games consoles into the EU, which adds an extra cost to the US-based manufacturer. That's why Sony tried to get the PS2 classed as a computer a few years ago, as computers didn't attract import tax! :-D
#39
I'm gonna stick with my 60Gb for now :)

Gonna wait for the PS3 Go! :whistling:
