I just went to Sainsbury in Hampton (St Clares) tonight. They had the nation wide promotion: PS3 160GB + 2 games for £199.99

I picked two "Fifa 12" games. The console plus the two games scanned at the till for £114.01, as they are deducted twice! If you sell the games (easy, in high demand), you can get a PS3 for about £50.

See picture of till receipt, clearly a mistake in the way the promotion is set up.

Update: reported by some people to work at other stores! Be quick before they correct it. Seems only to work with two "Fifa 12" games

    CONFIRMED!!!!
Just been to my local and did as the OP stated. Asked the nice lady to scan the goods first and Bingo, £114.01.
Contained my smile and paid as quickly as I could. She then went to get the games, brought them back to me and off I went!! As I walked away she did say to another member of staff that something funny was happening with the Playstation offer! I wish I could give the OP more heat!! Thank you!

Popped to local Sainsburys - got a birthday cake, a box of shreddies and a ps3 with 2 FIFA's for £118... thanks OP!

When I got there they said they couldn't sell me one as the people with the keys to the cupboard had gone home, which I assumed was their way of telling me they'd cottoned on, then one of the assistants said they thought someone in the storeroom had a swipe card, the card was duly fetched then they realised they also needed the managers keys. Waited for him to be paged. By the time it went through the till there were 4 staff members including the manager standing there. It went through the till they were apologising for the wait and saying it was the last one in the shop so took a while to find - then the assistant went 'hang on this is wrong, its taking £80quid off for each game" I played dumb, said a friend had called me to say Sainsburys had a good offer on. The manager checked, said it was wrong, but shrugged and said oh well - thats what it scans it and let me have it! I even got escorted to the car park in case I was mugged!

Enjoyed the banter with the staff. enjoyed the bargain and son will be ecstatic at xmas!

    Yeah same....

This is how they would go about fixing this simple flaw

    declare game1WithOfferdeclare game2WithOfferfunction Scan(){ … declare game1WithOfferdeclare game2WithOfferfunction Scan(){ game1WithOffer = barcodeOfGame1() game2WithOffer = barcodeOfGame2()}If ( game1WithOffer != game2WithOffer ){ deductAmountFromTotal(amount)}else{ <-- this is where they went wrong}function deductAmountFromTotal(single amount){ return (totalCost - amount)}

Now if anyone from Sainsburys saw this post, please hire me... I'm 17 and trying to raise money for driving lessons! Thank you very much.

As I said above, I don't care about deception against big chains, doesn't mean it isn't deception though.

A deception deliberately practiced in order to secure unfair or unlawful gain. The problem is that people, for some reason, think multi billion pound companies like Sainsburys are fair game. I imagine most people benefiting from this scheme wouldn't feel as blasé about it if it was a local store that just had tens of thousands of pounds worth of stock taken from it for a fraction of its worth.

Oh get a life you supercilious killjoy, I would much rather the regular folks on here benefited from a bargain than Sainsbury's were saved a miniscule dent in their colossal profits.

Why are you even on this site?

Having seen the deal late last night, I set my alarm and got up bright and early this morning (store near me opened at 7am)

As I got through the front doors there were around 4 young lads all stood having a chat, I though "Great, here we go, just my luck!". As I walked towards the games section I was surprised that none of them were following to check out the idiot who was gonna try and get a PS3 on the cheap.

Once I got there I saw two of the hallowed consoles and was silently celebrating. I quickly grabbed a 4 pint bottle of milk as I had to have something to go with my bundle, and then shoved two copies of FIFA into the basket. First part done!

Walking towards the tills I was dreading any of those lads coming over and was again shocked as there, stood three middle aged women by the self serve checkout. Approaching them they took the items and said they would go in the back of the store for the keys and return with the items. Already I am ecstatic and thinking of immediately ringing my brother to get him to shoot down for one (didn't want to take the **** by trying to get two).

One woman came back with the console and another brought the games from a different direction, everything had gone to plan. Now to scan these bad boys and mosey on home!

When they scanned and showed £285.97, my face just dropped. ****! I muttered something about it being cheaper online and she asked the other lady who just shrugged her shoulders and then all of a sudden, after a minute or so a discount popped up reducing it to £199.99. I then waited for another two minutes trying to deflect the conversation in hope that another discount would just pop up but alas it wasn't coming. All the perfect conditions to get this and the bloody checkouts let me down last minute!

The staff didn't seem to have any idea about the shenanigans late last night so thanks to the OP for sharing and ensuring that some people got an absolutely cracking deal out of this, just in time for Christmas. Hopefully they are not all listed straight up on Ebay and a few of you bought them for your kids presents.

Gotta laugh at the people taking the moral standpoint, bitter much? Why should any consumer care about morals when a company or corporation has none whatsoever?! Ludicrous!

Just grabbed one from Sainsburys Colne - took a lot of discussion just for them to find the keys to the game drawer and cage with the consoles. I had an escort from the woman from the customer services desk, the night shift manager, a random shelf stacker and some other bloke in a shirt and tie down to the self service checkouts to make sure it all went through okay for me
They apologised for the delay and the customer service lady was only too pleased to point out the discount had been applied. The shelf stacker just stood open mouthed muttering "That's a well good deal" repeatedly \o/

You know what else is 'good business practice'? Not selling products at a loss.

I'm actually amazed that people are annoyed that Sainsbury's isn't allowing people to keep exploiting this mistake. What did you expect? That Sainsbury's would find out about it and do nothing? If they were advertising this price then of course they would continue to sell it at this price, but the error was with the till system and it was only advertised by people on here and elsewhere. If you went in knowing it was an exploit then you should have been fully prepared to be refused sale.

I actually saw a few incidents like this when I worked in retail. You know what's interesting? Regular, genuine customers are quite understanding. If a regular customer took a PS3 with 2 copies of Fifa to the till, with no knowledge of this exploit, and got told that they couldn't buy them because of a pricing error in the system, they would generally be OK with it. The problems occur when the vultures descend. If someone knows about an exploit and comes in specifically to make use of that exploit, but is refused sale, you almost always get trouble. There's always a sense of entitlement, aggressive attitude and complete lack of surprise when the sale is refused, like they are entitled to buy the product because they were told about the pricing error by a mate, or heard about it online. Most of the time it's someone you've never seen before in your life, and won't see again until the next mistake. A genuine customer lost? I seriously doubt it.
