Hi all I have been looking for a good deal on just a Sony PSP to use as a portable media player and browser. This looks to be a good price and in stock. Although it does not mention it in the description I think this must be a slim and light! As mentioned though £4.95 postage.

Hope this helps someone

Regards Chilli

Game 109.99 with top game & free delivery (as an option if this isnt s&l & if it goes out of stock)

Yep 189grams is the slim & lite version :)

Edit: Hmm, they list the Slim & Lite separate for £109: http://direct.asda.com/Sony-PSP-SLIM...efault,pd.html

I'd suspect that this could be the phat version and the specs are wrong.

Is it the silver or the 3000 version?
#4
is it 3000 version, the new psp ?
#5

#6

Good price. Got one at woolworths for £69 inc. FIFA 2009...

Can these be hacked?
#12
Yes :)
#13
The earlier PSP-2000s can be hacked but later ones with the TA-88v3 Motherboard can't be. If you have the later motherboard the Pandora battery no longer works.

I don't know how you can tell which motherboard you have without buying the PSP first though.

Depends if they have the TA-088v3 motherboard in them or not..
#15
I'm sure there is a way to "Back up" those games for this model. ;-)

a quick look on google should tell you.
#16
what do you mean by hacked? and whats the diff between the 2000 and 3000 version?
#17
Thanks for the replies. Good Deal!

I mean to use homebrew and emulators on your psp

the 3000 cannot be hacked (yet)

the earlier slim & lite can be hacked the ones from argos cannot be hacked
firmware version needs to be less than 4

So basically no one can yet state if this one can run my backed up games or not. Sort of crucuial for me! If not it is a DS with R4
#22
It can be hacked. I have a 2000 and i used a pandoras battery and magic memory stick. It took all of about 5 - 10 minutes.

If it's a slim and lite with a TA-088v3 motherboard then it can't be hacked, obviously your's didn't.

The PSP 3000 has a mic e.t.c right? so that would be listed int he specs if it was a 3000?

This is PSP 3000 and apparently looks pretty much the same as the 2000?

Impossible question for people to ask but if I give this to a 9 year old which is preferable - a PSP or DS?

I would say hands down a DS, DS has so many kids games it is hard to count, and is alot more fun for a kid I would assume. PSP is lacking in that department.

Just look at the front page of each consoles Game.co.uk section as you will see PSP is deffinatley more aimed at the teenage market.

http://www.game.co.uk/PSP/
http://www.game.co.uk/DS

of cause the childs gender would play a role lol, a male might be more inclined to a PSP heh.

No, thats the PSP 2000 - here is the PSP 3000 note the mic hole at the bottom and the 'PS' button instead of the 'HOME' button.

Thanks - that was a really good way to illustrate it for me. Thank you. So my final question then. I have been told about R4 cards and the DS - that seems ideal. However, my son of course really wants a Wii. I don't mind the console but don't fancy the price of games. Are these easy to back up games for etc.

The Wii is.. the easiest console to play backups on lol, You do not need a modchip, now all you need is Legend of Zelda and a SD Card.

DS yeah there are lots of cards out there, R4 is pretty much the cheapest and easiest to use from what i hear.

//Edit

re-read, to backup games it is easy if you have the right drive, you have to get a particuler drive that can read the wii games, cost around £20-£40, if you google around you will probably find a list of the working ones.

I hope I am wrong, however I was just looking at this a bit further and there is a possibility this may be the original PSP not even the slim & lite one. Look at the link below:

http://direct.asda.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-ASDA-Site/default/Search-Show?q=psp&viewAll

If you look it lists both a white & black PSP @ £89 AND a White PSP Slim & Lite @ £109.95.

I just thought I would bring it to everyone's attention. For anyone buying, it might be worth putting a call into customer services to be 100% sure on 0844 824 3000 between 8am and 8pm any day.

Hum yeah...ug was about to order now I think i will wait till tomorrow.

The white one for £89 states that it has a built in mic, but it is a picture of the 2003 model.

Anyone going for this, make sure ou have bullet-proof baggies, I can see this getting ugly.

Same weight and same memory, but I thought the slim and lite was 33% lighter and had 64mb memory instead of 32mb.

I agree the specs are correct, however just wanted to point it out as they are the same on all three. I am not saying this isn't the slim & lite for £89, I am just advising people to check before they buy to be on the safe side.

Unless asda has got the full specification wrong then this should be the slim and lite psp. But I dont know why they are selling one for £109.95.
