Sony PSP Go! £199.97 @ Tesco Direct

Credit to: Nyxter on the Official PS3 Forums for finding this.

Tesco are taking pre-orders for the PSP Go for £199.99 where other stores are charging £230 or play.com with there £250 price tag. This is the best deal around (unless you are one of the luck ones who got it from game.co.uk for £179.99 a few months back).

Now please don't vote cold if you think the other PSP consoles are better its the price that matters and the fact is this is the best price around for the PSP GO!.

The PSP Go is out on the 2nd of October 2009. Tesco Club points available for this and quidco is accepted as well.

I await the cold votes £199 you can buy an xbox 306 elite for roughly this, and an old psp normal your looking at £50 so to me seems such a waste of money.

Not voting.
#2
No but the usual price of the psp go is 250 quid. it's hot
#3
Is this just another version of the PSP?

Yes but with out the UMD drive so its download only. Also it had bluetooth on so if you have a PS3 controller you can play your games using that.

yep.

The above makes it more expensive surely to run.

Even so but the deal should be compared to other prices of the same product, not older versions
#7
It's a good price compared to RRP, but it's not a good price for the product itself. I like my PSP, cost me £120.
#8
Hot price but not for me unless they devise a free and legal way of transferring the UMD titles I already own.

When UMDs can be picked up brand new from just £2.00, the thought of having to buy full priced PSP Go! versions from the Playstation Store is not an appealing one.

Sony are getting something in place for this. As they know a lot of people will want the Go but don't want to rebuy all there games again. So there putting something in place so you can get digital copys of your old games. For free without buying them again.

Well how else do they stop piracy?????

Look at the sales of DS and PSP games, sure they do sell alot but piracy is destroying handheld gaming. The PSP completely outdoes the DS when it comes to exclusive games, no

doubt about it, but regardless of that, look at the R4 and Homebrew on the PSP, everyone i know has an R4 and alot of people have a PSP with custom firmware.

I think you have to give it to Sony, they are trying to do something about it. The thing is this; Not that many blockbuster titles come out on handhelds because of the piracy. Companies don't want to risk losing money because so many people will pirate the games.

If you look at Crisis Core and Monster Hunter on the PSP, they sold CONSOLES, they were huge games, but if you go on torrent sites etc and look at how many times they have been downloaded, it's insane.

The same goes for the DS, look at the sheer amount of games people have downloaded on the R4's. Again, it's insane.

I strongly believe if people actually bought the games legit, Sony and Nintendo wouldn't have to try and stop the piracy.

People need to stop bashing Sony for trying something new

Hmmm. So what you are saying is if people didn't pirate games - Sony and Nintendo won't have to worry about people pirating games? Duh! :w00t:

I own a Sony PS3 before you start bashing me for not paying sonys garbage price.

All my games are legit even on my xbox.

I also own a DS there all legit.

This is an outstretched price end of.

I'm sorry but its another overvalued product and will die a slow death. No competition on buying and selling your games no trading no real resell value with the console. Yes it may stop piracy a little but do you not think someone is going to find away to get round the software. Give it a couple of months.

Its a carp product, and gives no real benefit to the end user that a normal PSP gives.

hot - good price for early adopters. it looks to be a nice bit of kit.

remember - if ure not an early adopter just sit tight - the price will be down to 150 by xmas i reckon.

just as a side note - sony are going to be pushing this thing in more the direction of the iphone as far as apps and games go. small, cheap gaming chunks for impulse buy and quick download. forget paying £25 for a 60 hour long RPG that takes 8 hours to download, this machine is gonna be all about small, simple and easy to consume gaming. a fiver here and there - epsiodal gaming.

this is new hardware signalling a change in the direction of the PSP as a whole.....not just a remix of the old ideals.
#20
PS3 is the only piracy proof console so the argument about piracy killing handhelds is a bit pointless.

Why? That would just make this a price comparison site. Comments about value are completely relevant to whether or not a deal represents being a hot deal or whether it's a complete waste of time and money and is thus cold.

IMO, this represents very little over the other current models so it's cold from me:p

Have Sony explicitly stated this? The last official statement I saw on this subject reiterated the fact that the PSP 3000 will remain in production for those who wish to enjoy their UMDs. :?

Can I fit my pandora battery into this?:w00t:

Wow That thing is UGLY!!

So Sony take out the UMD drive(expensive) and replace it with a bit of memory (Cheap) and they want to charge and extra 80 - 130 quid for it? When you can't even trade in your games once bought for this? This is nuts - no wonder Sony are losing so much money.

. . . Just seen a quote from a Sony exec - Sony are basically charging as much as they think UK will pay. - Has no relation to the rest of the world, or the price of manufacture.
Still, at least they are honest about it!!

Games are cheaper now than they have ever been. Back in the day, Nes games were £60 a pop and N64 games were £40-£50 each. There was no such thing as Platinum til the PS1 came along and games came out at around £30 and as soon as they sold 1m, they went for £20 on platinum..

Now games are released around £40 and because gaming is so much bigger, prices drop quicker and more games come out platinum.

The truth is, some people wouldn't pay if the games were £5, they just download the game. It's people like this who shouldn't be allowed to play games.

To compare it to an Xbox is just silly.

Also to compare it to a machine that hasn't been produced for years that you are very unlikely to get for £50 is unfair.

I wouldn't pay this price, because it's too expensive in my opinion.
#29
cheap compared to the usual, but whoever thinks this is a bargain is very mistaken, a phat psp & 16gb memory stick would be less than half the price, maybe 1/3, ok its not the same, admittedly but seems like a massive price to pay for a small upgrade, i wont be getting one, the ps3 was 425 at release, if you put one up at 399.99 it would be cheap in comparison, but still a complete rip off! (unless you worship sony ;) )

Well i don't think its a case of people 'worshipping Sony' as much as it's the 'Sony Haters' who are just being negative for no reason.

Sony are obviously planning some big things and the PSP Go! is just the beginning. Considering the PSP originally came out at £249.99, why is everyone so mad at the PSP Go! having a RRP of £249.99 ????

The PSP will probably be competing with the iPhone now, along with the DS, so it'll make for an interesting battle. Considering the PSP Go! can play the majority of older PSP games once they become available for download, the PSP Go! will also be able to play games you download like you do for the iPhone.

I can honestly see the PSP Go! taking off big time. People are hating on it for no real reason other than they are bored and cannot see the future of gaming. Sony know exactly how the videogame market works. They make the N64 fade into the background and they made Sega bankrupt with the Dreamcast. Sony know what they are doing. (And no, i'm not a fanboy im just stating how i see it)
#31
The price is so very wrong in this climate. I paid £150 odd when the first gen came out back in 2005. So what new am I getting for my £200 - no UMD drive (that's rubbish), a slightly better screen (woop de do). This is just another reboot of a brand to take our money away. Just like Windows 7. I expect people who buy Windows 7 will also preorder this.

check vgchartz weekly and see for yourself then.... It's these kind of comments that prove people hate on Sony for no real reason.

When Monster Hunter and Crisis Core came out, the PSP was out-selling the DS worldwide for months and months.

Once Dissidia comes out, the same could happen again. Sony DO know what they are doing.. I could go into it, but there's clearly no need.

not really i can remember buying the equlivilent to platinum games for my spectrum and c64 for 1.99, they could manage it then them im sure they could now obviously not 1.99 but in line, video games industry makes a fortune even with piracy and rrp for the leading consoles games is 49.99 so still are that much but can be bought cheaper mainly due to online sellers, but do agrre somepeople just would take it for nothing even if they were say a similar price to blurays which they should be
#38
The whole concept is flawed. I would not want to download games and other stuff only. Ridiculous overpriced. I'd be amazed if this sells at all.

Just like the DS and DSI, there was no real need for it and to justify the hefty price increase.

In comparison, paid £50 for my PSP 2000 (new), got 32GB of memory for it, homebrewed it and now have a portable multimedia monster.

They only advantage of the release of this is that it will drive down the price of previous versions.

What exactly will the PSP Go be able to do that a PSP 3000 series with a memory card wil not be able to do?
