Recent news articles mentioned that the latest Sony PlayStation Portable handheld console was due to be re-released/re-launched (hopefully with better promotion &/or incentives this time around). Possibly in anticipation of this Amazon are now offering the White model for a reduced price of £179.99. (The Black model is listed at £198.00).

The deal has already been cold & the last couple of voters have pushed it back positive again:

-7, 0, -7, 6, -1, 6, 14... :)

I've been tempted to buy one for a while (as I already have both the PSP-1000 series & PSP-2000 series models), but I cannot decide if I should stick with the Universal Media Drive (considering I have a fair few titles on this format already) & buy a PSP-3000 series model, or go straight to the PSP Go.

[EDIT]: Back down to 6 degrees again!

The fact that the two previous offer redemption periods have now expired may account for the fall in price in the console, or that it has just been met with criticism as it is not fully understood who the target audience is supposed to be.

You might want to wait for the new 4000 model which is this model with a UMD

Rumoured to have a Universal Media Disc drive, yes... but it is probably a good bet that it will have.

I expect to hear more news on this device towards the end of the year; probably at the Tokyo Game Show (mid-September).

All the models can be chipped; you just have to look at some of the examples in the "For Sale" forum to see how they can be badly treated during ownership.

PS. Voting is going well..

You're both wrong. Only the 1000 series can be chipped using the Undiluted-Platinum Modchip.

However

ALL of the 1000 series and most of the 2000 series can be FLASHED to run CFW and homebrew. :thumbsup:

Anything can be chipped depending on the height you drop it from & the surface it falls onto.

Was cheaper then this at misco recently.

The normal UMB equiped PSPs are better then this, so I'll only vote Hot on PSPgo deals once they are cheaper then say £110.

Yes, there were cheaper than this previously. HMV sold the black PSP Go console for £149.99 for one day too.

The point of voting is to show your agreement (or non-agreement) that the deal is the best price at the present time.

If you do not wish to vote either way, that's fine. The fact that you do not value the product any higher than £110, although relevant to you, should not be a contributory factor to voting though.

Thanks for your comment in any respect.

I think that's very relevant to how I want to vote. If I don't think it's worth more then £110 yet it's priced at £180 then I'm bound to vote cold , ain't I? :thinking:

I will reiterate what I typed above:

"The point of voting is to show your agreement (or non-agreement) that the deal is the best price at the present time."

A member's personal preference about a product should not be part of the voting process but, in practice, this does not happen; as you have demonstrated.

See "Temperature & voting":

...If you are cold voting a deal, it is good forum etiquette to post a note in the deal as to why you have done so. There is nothing more confusing to a new member, than to post a deal, only to see it go cold with no explanation. If you found the item cheaper elsewhere, please let us know where and how. If you have no interest or knowledge about the deal at all, please don’t vote cold, just move on.

as fanpages said its not if you think its worth the price but if its the cheapest for that paticular product.

i noticed this a lot recently here people voting cold just because they dont like the product or dont feel its worth the amount.

I thought the whole point of voting hot was to indicate you thought the deal was Hot and you vote Cold if you don't think it is. If it just to say Yes it is the best deal, why have a temperature guage? We could just have YES it is the best price or NO it isn't. In the latter case the post shouldn't even be here and maybe the website needs to be renamed Bestpricedukdeals.

If a space walk was priced at one trillion pounds and it was only available from one source then it would be the cheapest price. You would say that's automatically very hot because it's the cheapest. I would prefer to use free judgement and say it's cold because I don't think it's worth one trillion pounds.

If I'm using this site wrong I'll start to vote everything hot unless I know of a cheaper deal and also know the deal has stock readily available. Of course I won't know this for many items unless I trawl the internet and highstreet to research it but that kind of defeats the idea of coming onto the site to find hot deals easily.

Also your link does not explain the workings of how you should vote and doesn't back up your statement of voting everything hot if it's the cheapest available. It simply states how your voting power is increased when you participate more in the site.

You voted cold because the product is not priced as you would like it to be.

I would like an Aston Martin One-77. It may be over 1 million pounds, and I would like to see it priced at £30,000, but if I see a deal where it has been dropped to £750,000 I can appreciate a good price for that product & vote "hot" accordingly.

If I had no knowledge of that product, though, I would just move on.

In your example, the space walk would be considered the Recommended Retail Price as it is the only price available & hence I would not vote either way as there is no comparison price(s) to consider it "hot" or "cold".

You will see this same instance occur when members list items available exclusively from, say, Play.com, or HMV, or GAME.

I cannot say how you are currently using the site but, as you describe, yes, you need to research other retailers to determine if a price is the best or not.

Do not assume that every deal listing presents the best price, or the best deal.

You will regularly see deal listings contain comments where items can be found cheaper.

Looking back up this thread you will see me ask for information where the same item can be found at a cheaper price as there is no other reason to vote 'cold'.

I voted cold because I think the standard PSP is better and it's priced around the £110-£130.

How could you vote the Aston 177 hot at £750,000 because as far you know some other dealer might be selling it for £748,000. If you can only vote hot on the cheapest then the £750,000 is a bad deal. There again with voting as it's acually carried out you would see them both voted hot but the £748k deal would be hotter. Hence the Tempature guage system.

Anyway I think the temperature of this deal proves my point. This is the CHEAPEST deal out there currently available but few people have voted hot. Enough said. :roll:

Up until very recently a PSP-3000 bundled with "LEGO Batman" could be bought at GAME.co.uk for £119.99:

Sony PSP 3000 Black Console with Lego Batman only £119.99 @ Game + Quidco.

If you have found one for £110, then please list a deal accordingly.

The fact that not many people have voted on this deal may be because they have followed the guidelines for voting.

If I was in the market to buy a PSP Go (rather than just to state how bad I thought the product was compared to a related product) then I would know this was the best price.

If I was looking for an Aston Martin then I would be aware of which dealers sold it & what the best price was I had spotted to date.

It is not uncommon to vote a deal listing as "hot" then be advised that a better deal exists, then vote "hot" again. Members following the original vote will see the new listing & vote "cold" on the lesser (higher price) deal & "hot" on the better (lower price) deal.

Eventually enough members vote the better price higher.

This is how the HotUKDeals.com voting system is supposed to work.

(and will expire on 31 March 2010)

I did not mention this here (although I have mentioned in previous threads) as it is not connected with the deal at Amazon.

The PSP Go Rewards scheme is a promotion by Sony regardless of where a PSP Go is purchased.

Thanks for the link in any respect.

-7, 0, -7, 6, -1, 14, 6, 14, 15, 16, 20, 14, 22, 21, 28, 36, 34, 21, 29. 34

...but still do mention of a cheaper deal elsewhere.

Taken from my comment in a previous PSP Go deal listing (now expired):

...there is a "Rewards Scheme" available with all new PSP Go purchases until the end of March 2010...
---
The PSPgo rewards scheme will allow you to kick start your Go collection with a couple of free games for those who currently own an older PSP.

What you'll be able to do is download 3 games from a selection of 17, these can either be games from your current UMD collection or 3 new titles. The full list is as follows:

* Killzone Liberation
* Medievil
* Wipeout Pure
* Buzz Brain Bender
* Buzz Master Quiz
* SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo
* Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
* Everybody's Golf
* Resistance: Retribution
* Syphon Filter Dark Mirror
* Lemmings
* LocoRoco
* Patapon
* Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
* Echochrome
* Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice
* Daxter

The process of obtaining these titles is as follows

Unwrap your shiny new PSPgo and start it up

1. Connect to PlayStation®Network and activate your new or existing PlayStation Network account for PSPgo Rewards
2. Start up your current PSP and connect to PlayStation Network
3. Login using the same PlayStation Network account , and launch PlayStation®Store
4. Pop one of your UMDs into the drive of your current PSP and register on PSPgo Rewards when prompted
5. Download a PSPgo theme
6. Wait for your email voucher for your three free games
7. Choose, download and enjoy!

This is going to begin on 1 October 2009 and will run until 31 March 2010.

Are you sure you can download "games from your current UMD collection "?

I ask because I followed the instructions on my Go last night. It only asks you to insert one game into your old PSP to qualify for the 3 downloads and so will not what games I already own on disc other than that one.

The fact that the two previous offer redemption periods have now expired may account for the fall in price in the console, or that it has just been met with criticism as it is not fully understood who the target audience is supposed to be.

BFN,

I can tell you who the target audience is, stupid people who have money to waste when they buy a console that relies solely on downloadable media, which means you need to repurchase every game all over again, and whats more, is that the downloadable versions seem more expensive! what a joke!

3 games! pffff... u will end up paying for them anyway, due to the increased costs of games over what you can get a hard copy for online on the older psp

This thing will surely fail!

There are of course people that are new to the PSP and so will not be buying the games all over again and will prefer the smaller and lighter format.

As for game prices, you may well be right but I did notice today that Little Big Planet was a fiver more expensive in GameStation than the download version.

I would suggest it is aimed towards a person who does not already have a comprehensive collection of titles available for an earlier PSP model.

And, as I have said countless times already elsewhere across other HotUKDeals threads, but I appreciate you may not have seen me say this already...

Sony charging the Recommended Retail Price (or more than the standard retailers) is due to (informal) agreements with those retailers so that they will have an incentive to continue to sell Sony hardware.

If PS3 or PSP (Go) titles could be purchased cheaper from the PlayStation Store then there is no motivation for a customer to return to the high street to purchase games at all. The sale of games is where the retailer makes the most profit; not only because of the higher profit margins but also because for every console sold a typical consumer purchases more than the purchase price of the hardware with perpetual software purchases.

fp.
