This is an asolute steal. Version 1.5 allows you to play Homebrews! Seriously, if you are after a PSP this is a steal as its difficult to get firmware downgrader software. Im off to buy one now and get rid of my version 2.0 firmware.

Enjoy!

From what I have read, its difficult to find a genuine downgrader. I hope someone can give a more techy answer.
#5
ok , see what feedback you get also will need decent memory stick
#6
Good price but not essential that its a 1.5, still would need upgrading at some point

2.0 has been downgradable for absolutely ages 3.03 is the latest that is downgradable so far. If you want to downgrade your 2.0 Firmware mph's downgrader was the original 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader and is still prefered today for 2.0 to 1.5. Here is a guide and the files required for this downgrade using mph's downgrader.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-downgrade.php

As I said the latest downgradable firmware is 3.03 and here is a guide with the required files. The 3.03 downgrade does require an unpatched copy of GTA Liberty City Stories.

Is it only possible to play games off a memory card using the 1.5 software?
#9
before you downgrade check what rev board you have. check if its a TA-082 board before you downgrade as you could use the wrong downgrader. once you have downgraded you want to upgrade to 3.30-oe. this will make it much more easier to play games as you can load them from the xmb.

when you downgrade/upgrade there is a very small chance that you can brick your psp so make sure you take your time and no what your doing. it has become easier with auto-installers though. just have you psp charged to 100%, they say 75% but how long extra will it take to reach 100%? have the charger in. have no umd in the drive and restore defaults.

no you need 1.5 firmware so you can run applications that have access to the kernel. if your on 1.5 you then want to upgrade to 3.40-oe (open edition) this is the same as the original firmware but much better and advanced. it takes about 4 mins to copy the files aaccross and update to 3.40-oe.

can post files if ok with mod?

...you can play any other normal umd game which doesnt require you to update the firmware. Once you upgrade its hard to get back so be careful!

If anyone wants to gain more knowledge and/or ask questions about the PSP and the different firrmwares, downgraders, custom firmwares etc browse or join the Maxconsole forum. It is by far the best PSP forum and the mods take piracy very seriously unlike most other similar websites/forums.

wouldnt say its hard to get back and dont understand why someone would want to if they are on open edition? no need for devhook, full res videos, recovery mode and flash 0 access via usb. 3.30-oe has all the features of 1.5 as well as those listed above as well as those in the official sony firmware.

if for some reason you did want to go back to 1.5 it will take no longer then 5 mins. plus with "back-ups" you can dont need to carry round umd's woth you. the price of a four 4gb pro duo is quite cheap now anyway.

I prefer 1.5 and DH still, as im not a fan of flashing. There is risk in downgrading although i have been lucky so far.

To anyone who doesnt quite understand, homebrew is software that isnt authorised to be run on the PSP, so thats games people have written themselves and applications.

You can only run this unauthorised software in kernel mode (this means using the full power of the PSP basically) with firmware v1.50 due to a security hole, however once youve upgraded your PSP you cant downgrade without using these hacks and exploits, which as stated earlier is a bit risky.

You then need to emulate the later firmware editions, that is by running them as within application called Devhook, so that you can play games that require the later firmware. Understand? Dont worry, for homebrew you need 1.5, and so long as you read many tutorials, take your time and dont turn off the PSP prematurely, all should be OK.

This is an extremely good deal by the way. If they have been downgraded, i assume they are still new?

If you want to get 3.30-oe, there is an "all in one installer" available for those who don't want muck about with downloading and installing lots of separate files.
Google 3.03 OE-C EASY FLASHER
#15
i thought i was going to stick with devhook and 1.5 but decided to give 2.71 se a go. wouldnt go back now just because oe is more convenient. i was also a bit nervous of upgrading or doing any thing to the flash but as long as you take your time you should be fine.

do what solidamber has said if you want to upgrade and use an auto-installer theres is no way you can mess it up then unless you do something stupid like take the battery or card out while its flashing. thats what i do now as i cant be bothered to create the files my self.

if you have kids the oe is something you should look in to.
#16
Its so easy to downgrade anyway!!!

Plus you would need to get used to the system anyway so downgrading helps out in that respect. Also you need to know how the system works because 1.5 is outdated and you are best re upgrading to custom firmware as mentioned above. If you cannot downgrade then you hve no hope of upgrading to the latest custom firmware!

1.5 is history!! Get a decent package not a one off svp and downgrade and upgrade! You can easily downgrade by buying a liberty city stories off fleabay!
#17
Thats as cheap as chips! (microchips not micowave oven chips) 1.5versions are very rare.

Just ordered 3!

Thanks for the tip!

ok let me try to clear up a few things for everyone.

the original sony 1.5 firmware that you get with this or any other psp will allow you to play dodgy games. to play dodgy games on 1.5 you have to install an app called devhook. when you use devhook you are emulating a higher firmware. you will have to do this every time you turn off your psp. the psp also has a web browser, its a crappy one but it does have one. as a web browser is not in 1.5 you will have to launch devhook again to use the web browser.

with custom firmwares you have to flash your psp. theres is a small chance of bricking your psp when you flash but the chance of this happening is very low. like i said earlier take your time and use an auto installer. then all you have to do is press the right buttons when prompted.

once you have cutom firmware on you can play iso's directly from the psps menu so no need to launch any thing else. you will also get many other benefits, one being recovery mode so its almost impossible to completely brick your psp.

to sum it up iso's can be played on 1.5 but personally i would use custom firmware, as it does so much more and as i said earlier the chance of bricking your psp is very low and it seems pointless staying on 1.5 as custom firmware does everything 1.5 does and more.

Think you would just get your money back on Ebay for this package after fees etc. Not a money spinner in my opinion

as long as i can play back ups its priceless dude:)

1.5 is rare but about 90% of psps can be downgraded to this anyway!

custom firmware has all the benefits of 1.5 and the official sony 3.40 firmware combined. The 1.5 version mentioned above is missing loads of qualities..... i'm sure i have a table of the features missing if you dont upgrade to custome firmware 3.40oe-a (i may be wrong but some of the wireless stuffs missing!)
#26
Don't forget you will need at least a 2GB memory card to fit a larger game on. I can get up to 7 decent games on my 4GB
#27
phoenix123 you beat me to your point!

i second that. phoenix123 is spot on.

3.30 oe allows mp4 avc up to 480x372 or 272 cant remember which one but it allows you to use the full resolution when you convert videos. so they will be dvd quality.
#32
Just bought a second hand 1 on ebay last night for £120 did have a 4gig card and quite a few extras with it. Will do me good when im on holiday or on a long journey like a plane :D 3.40oe is the best to use it can only be installed form a 1.5 though you could google it to see what comes up and you should see quite a few how to's.
#33

1.5 are not rare anymore as so many firmwares are now down gradable.

1.5 aren't worth that much anymore, as has been said, you can downgrade upto 3.*
all the info required is 'out there'

720x480 ;) or 480x272 (the full res of the psp). Havent tried the 'over'-res yet, might be good with a quality source tho!

Downgrading from 3.03 isnt as easy as you guys all say. Obtaining an unpatched copy of the darn game is nigh on impossible. I've bought 4 or 5 off ebay all were liars and it wasnt the right one, and 2 in shops that werent correct. I've given up now and I'd be happy to buy one thats already 1.5!

I would agree with mightymouse_toon in that the best place to get your custom firmware is from the man himself, Dark Alex. Failing that, hit the Maconsole forums and follow the various guides there.

I would disagree with phoenix123 about auto installers. Having flashed more than a handful of PSPs personally without any problem using the manual methods described by Dark Alex in his firmware releases, I can attest to the simplicity of the process. However, I know 2 people who have tried the auto installer way and ending up bricking their PSPs. As always YMMV but whenever you attempt to do anything like this, ensure you fully understand the process up front, so as to prevent problems later.

Finally, full screen video encoded using FFMPEG on Linux looks fantastic on the open edition firmware. I use it watch TV shows on the train to work everyday and it always blows people away when I explain what I am doing :)

IMO, get this machine, upgrade to 3.40 OE firmware and enjoy doing everything that Sony do their best to stop you doing :)
#39
hey guys, a friend of mine can get all the games and software for these if you are interested let me know :)
banned#40
I'm glad other people have been quicker than me to point these things out.

I'm not sure if £115 is a decent price or not, but I suspect it might not be(?)

The 1.5 is entirely irrelevant now. It was AWESOME and a rarety but not any more.

~PSPs up to 3.03 can be downgraded~
3.10 - 3.40 Currently can't run Homebrew or Downgrade

3.10 to 3.40 are still very rare to find on new machines. Obviously its a risk.

Once downgraded to 1.50, you should then upgrade to "3.40 OPEN EDITION" from dark alex.

This is simple, but time consuming to find the correct ROMs. What open edition does, is combine the openness of 1.5, with the latest ROM (3.40) which gives you all the homebrew you need, and will still play the latest games!
