Sony's digital download only handheld device PSPgo for as cheap as it's been in the UK! HMV had this at £148.99 for one day only back in November, but now it's (practically) the same price on Amazon.

The PSPgo has had it's critics, due to it's lack of UMD drive, high price tag and questionable slider design, but I like mine. The reduce size and weight actually make it a lot more portable than the old PSP, and the built-in flash memory makes it easier to carry tens of games with you all the time.

You should be warned of the prices of games on the PlayStation Network. Even though they are digital only, they can often be more expensive than the physical UMD available in shops (which you cannot use with the PSPgo). A parital solution is to buy PSN cards at a reduced rate (you can get a card worth £20 on the PSN for about £17 - current cheapest is a place called 7dayshop:
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_15&products_id=107144 ). This means you only pay 85% of the PSN price, though this doesn't necessarily make it as cheap as the UMD version :-(

True but some prefer dealing with Amazon due to Plays poor customer service regarding non delivered items and poor parcel tracking (ie they don't have any)
#4
Good shout FaithNoMore. Should I edit my post to include a link to Play too? I guess the Deal button will still only take you to Amazon :-S

Personally I've had loads of problems with Play! For a long time their address-to-card matching code was messed up so it'd never accept my payments, even though other sites like Amazon and HMV worked flawlessly. I think they've improved though.

PSPgo (white) £149.99 @ Play.com

.
Seems to be the standard price now, still not selling tho. Look for the £99.99 PSP-3000's instead. A better system

I agree with you guys, I would pick Amazon over Play every day of the week. I just wanted to throw in that it is available elsewhere at the same price.

NO UMD drive
Non replaceable battery
Non-standard peripherals (different charger, USB cable and memory cards to any other PSP's)
It has the smallest screen on ANY PSP so far..
More expensive digitally downloaded games only.
Crippled futher by ONLY having 802.11 b Wireless. It will take around 3 and a half hours to download Gran Turismo via your PSP !!
Not all games are available from the PSP's back catalogue.

The biggest console joke in the last 15 years.

Do yourself a favour and buy a 1000/2000/3000 series or an original Gameboy from the 80's instead.

Fixed for truth.

DONT BUY IT

even sony themselves said they cocked up on pricing and
alienated users. they said a drastic rethink of the psp is in order.

expect a better version out soon
#10
Thought i read some retailers refused to stock this latest psp as well.
#11
Agree so much this version is just stupid, how did they actually get it to retail without thinking how bad it would be lol, I LOVE my PSP and would never dream of buying this version, even if it was £100 I would not, they really messed this up.

To be honest though there is no need in all the versions of the PSP and DS, it's just getting silly now lol I'm happy with my DS Lite and Very very old PSP Phat

i lost my psp original so looking for a new one... as cheap as this one is now... dont think i'll benefit much from this.
is the psp 3000 really is 100pounds now?

Can't agree more. Play.com customer service is hopeless. Even if you buy from third party sellers, Amazon use tough screening process them. The seller have to dispatch the goods first then they get paid after providing the tracking number to Amazon. So customer will get it a lot faster. Unlike them, Play.com takes forever to dispatch. Play.com use standard script like robots when u call them. Let alone sorting out the issue with goods. They can't even successfully change my billing address after numerous phone calls.

I've bought loads of stuff from Amazon over the last 10 years....

Their customer service is stunning. And that's why I keep going back.

Waste of money yes it looks fit BUT its not
#16
I've never had a problem with play.com. Once when something didnt surface they replaced it without question (after 14 days in case it turned up). I didnt even have to call them. Did it online.

I've not yet had anything go missing from Amazon but its reassuring to hear their customer service is that good.

yep they put at the bottom of each email or in their statement they want to be
'the most customer centric company on earth or something'

they are doing a good job

Complete and utter waste of time. Sony have completely lost the plot the psp was a good idea originally I still have the original phat and its an excellent bit of kit with a wonderful screen and functionality.

This is a backwards step in the name of progress - to kill piracy fair enough but this wasnt the way to do it.

Fine offer download only games but take a leaf out of apples book. Make them cheap enough to make piracy pointless make it easy and seamless to download. Offer a complete back catalogue - every thing psp games, ps1 and ps2 games, emulated games from older consoles. Use an open source language provide more than games, apps, provide perfect web browsing and email pop and web based. Let people use standard format memory cards.

Dont down spec the console and offer a worse experience / less features for more money.

Sony have really lost there way in recent years they made a complete mess of the ps3 for the first few years, much too expensive, they continue to cling on to making everyone buy there propriatary format memory, discs. When will they learn and start giving people what they want ?

Between Nintendo, Apple and Microsoft they are taking apart Sonys business piece by piece. They cant make many more mistakes like the Ps3 and Psp.

Nice, I gave up when putting Deadalus onto mine and couldn't be bothered with any more emulators.
Ripping my old ps1 games and putting the boot loaders on is a pain to but managed to do my Silent hill, vagrant story, Resident Evil 3, Metal gear, Fear effect 2 and Syphon filter.- some good old gaming there:thumbsup:

Yes, from various places they were on offer for £100. All seem expired lately though.

Still stick with the 3000 though or the DSi / DSiXL rather then this thing.
They tried to sell these things at £180 2-3 weeks ago http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/612415/sony-psp-go-console-white-179-99-de?page=3
Clearly they never shifted and hence another price drop by them.

If they go down to £50 I might buy one and sit it next to my Gizmondo. Gizmondo would still get used more though.

100% agreed, 90% of my online shopping is from Amazon and have NEVER been let down. Any problems I've had have always been quickly resolved. Awesome company!

Granted this is a portable console but when compared to a nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 this portable console simply is not good value but having said all that if you are looking t buy one this is a great price.

My PSP Go from Play arrived today - 3 days after ordering so I'm very happy. Before getting it I read all the reviews and was deliberating a PSP3000 or PSP Go as I don't have many PSP games at all and haven't played my original PSP for several years.

I used my old PSP to look at the PSN store and was happy with what I saw plus the current offers they have for upgrading. Then I went and looked at both of them. OMG the decision was easy. I don't find the original PSP comfy but the new one is. The slim and lite is lighter of course, but I don't find it comfortable.

The PSP Go won't suit everyone but I'm really pleased with it :)

psp is like the wii now.......hardly any developers bother with it and when they do, the end product is mediocre.
its actually very profitable for developers but the number of psp pirates puts them off.

outdoors its almost unplayable with reflections and by turning up the brightness you limit the battery life even further.........if you dont have a ps3 its definatly worth paying the extra £100.

Have you actualy used one of these? I have one and its excellent. It does NOT take 3 1/2 hours to download gran turismo. On average it takes about 20 minutes to download a game for me including Gran Turismo. I use mine all the time. You can also download to your pc and then add it to your psp through media go which is included with this system. So what if you cant change the battery if mine fails it's going straight back to Sony, simple. As for the lack of UMD so what, it means you dont have to carry discs about with you. And it has about 32 gb on board storage I think so plenty for me without needing a memory card!! Get One!

20 minutes to download over a 1 gigabyte file using your PSPGO? You must be from the future.

When your battery fails and it's out of warranty you'll be looking at at least £50 or more for it to be replaced by sony.

Lack of UMD means you're forced to buy the games at whatever Sony decides to charge... Now go and buy Silent Hill Origins for your PSP GO... One of the best games for the PSP, oops, you can't! :whistling:

The PSP GO only comes with 16gb of internal storage. MY PSP has got 32gb of removable storage

1000mb / 1mbps = 16.67 minutes. Sounds about right to me?
