The modern way to record TV programmes is via the Sony RDRDC 100B. As well as being a DVD player it's also got a 160GB hard drive, which will store up to 270 hours of content. The hard drive is also used to 'pause' live TV and you can watch the beginning of a recorded programme while it's still being recorded. Series record lets you record an entire series of programmes at the touch of a button.

The DVD player will upscale DVDs via it's HDMI connection, there's a dedicated link for Sony HDD camcorders, as well as a USB port for a wide range of devices.

On-screen menus make all the operations simple and there's even a dedicated photo viewing setting.

The user reviews on Amazon aren't promising but that at more twice the price of this offer.

just read it. My old Panasonic which was over 8 years old started up and closed down faster. Also seems this machine is sluggish. Maybe for £99.99 it is bearable

It's a DVD Recorder not just player.

I have a similar Sony model and it is rubbish - takes a few mins to turn on or off. U need a phd to operate it - if u think this is one of those products where u don't even need to open the manual, think again.
I was so disappointed I unplugged it and put a humax box in it's place and a separate DVD player

In fact, when I went to Sony centre recently, they admitted they had withdrawn all those boxes and were in fact flogging humax as well

Really ticks me off with Sainsbury's ...saw this price displayed on the shelf today, asked about stock ........none .........said if you have none and not getting any in you should remove the display......no we can't it is a stock item so we have to display.........I also asked about a sony 370 and Grundig HD Freesat at a too good to be true prices.........also none or getting any in ??. Sainsbury's need to get a grip.......does nothing for their credability just trying to spoil other retailers market by displaying low prices without stock .........saying all that if you can get hold of at this price worth a try

Not in stock.

These are made by Samsung. I've owned a Samsung dvd recorder and the bug list goes on forever.

Always discovering new ones. It will fight you all the way.

It had to be in standby to record. Unbearable to use and slooow. Went back for a refund after a month.

Are they made by Samsung? I had a Samsung DVD/VHS combi for a while, the DVD player died after a year. I bought if because I had Samsung CRT TV at the time that I was very happy with - never again after that experience.

There is a long thread on the AVforums about these models which I was involved with. It was me that predicted Sony had moved from pioneer based dvd recorders to samsung based. Anyway to summarise its basically a samsung dvd recorder but has a pioneer dvd drive. Generally its actually inferior to the samsung model its based on. However I'm not aware of the current firmware so perhaps many issues have been resolved.

Here is the thread;

http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-ray-dvd-recorders-media/1001931-sony-rdr-dc90-100-205-305-505-digital-tuner.html

I had high hopes for the product but it was just a disaster. In the end I just advised people to return them as they weren't fit for purpose. As you can see that was some time ago so perhaps firmwares have improved a lot now. The worst thing about it was Samsung had provided a dvd recorder that enabled people to record perfect broadcast copies of freeview recordings and save them to disc but Sony removed this from their firmware.

2005 called, said they wanted their DVD recorder with HDD back.

I had one of these and gave it away very frustrating to use.
I think the problem is a slow processor only able to do one thing at a time.
Recorded 2 channels but one was analogue.
Stick with Humax.
