I have a Sony Freeview DVD/HDD from a couple of years ago and apart from only being able to record one thing at a time, it is perfect. It always records perfectly by coming on just before a programme starts and getting the end (which is of course what it should do).
However Humax and many pvr manufacturers don't seem to be able to do the same. My Thomson relies on manually adding 'padding' and Humax seem to have a habit of missing either a start or an end.

i feel smug as the store i work at were selling a slightly older model than this and i got it for a tenner the other day as the stock was being binned.
as OP says the only downside to it is you can only record one thing at a time and you can't watch the freeview at the same time unless you have a separate box or its built into your tv.
