Does anyone know whether this is a "smart charger" or a dumb one? i.e. does it detect when a battery is done, or does it just charge for a set time interval

1700mAh batteries are pretty small for electronics

I think its has an "automatic cut off" .. see large picture bottom left.. but that means its kind of smart,

For those who were thinking of buying but were too late, just a couple of comments.

1) This is not a smart charger; it is a timer model that switches off after a set time. The charger takes no account of the charge of the cells before or after charging.
If you want a smart charger, look for one with 'delta-v' control.

2) This charger is only capable of charging cells up to 1700mAh capacity; latest AA cells have capacities in excess of 2000mAH - I think the biggest I have seen to date is 2700mAh

Thanks for the extra info Premier :santa: Very useful to know :santa:
