Nice one.
Don't get me started about paying £400 for a 1x or 2x CD burner in the States which seemed like a bargain as they were £600 in the UK.
And people complain about the price of SSD!

I have very limited knowledge about computers. There is a slightly different one that has been posted about a week ago for a few pence more.

I need one but can't make a decision.

Is this one any better?

Looks like the 7260S can read/write to DVD/RAM in addition to everything the 5260S does.

Read/write speeds look the same for other media. Since you are unlikely to come across DVD-RAM, it's not going to make any difference. If there was a £5 price difference, I'd go for the cheaper one but no price difference here and either will do what you want.

Yes, the discs are more of the issue. Any DVD RW on the market should read and burn the games. Just make sure you buy thr correct media, I don't have an xbox so not sure which discs you need, google has the answer, but the drive will work.

Providing it supports dual layer (which this drive does) then yes.

My 14 month old son has just broken the dvd drive on our dell inspiron desktop. Any idea if this will work? I have no technical knowledge of computers. Kids!

I take your point as they are good too, but as a system builder these are the most robust and reliable writers on the market in this price bracket (up to £20 - Plextors at the high end are solid). Samsungs have been the least reliable although they are getting better (apart from early Sony's). LG is hit and miss. Lite On could be superb and then you could get a poor model with low reliablilty and high noise. Sony's were the worst of the lot until they 'merged' with NEC (which are superb in terms of reliabilty, performance and noise) and Sony ditched their own technology in favour or NEC. Pioneer's run a very close second for me but still have no problems using them. Hot, hot deal as delivery is included.

Pioneers changed to a cheaper chipset [118 onwards might have been 117] dunno if they have switched back yet.

edit it started with 118 when they switched from Nec to mediatek

There are a lot of good CD/DVD writers about. I just bought a Lite-On for about same price but it did come with Nero 9 software, which I guess adds a little more value to the deal ( Dabs )

Nero adds no real value to anything. It's far too big for what you need it's simply bloatware.

There are plenty of free burning programs. For instance http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
