Not sure about this still too step rather buy another ps3 at least that way id have bluray a media server and games machine as well
#2
Just to warn everyone, this is not profile 2.0 and therefore will be redundant soon! :)

Strange, considering they have won the war. :)

They won the war over HD DVD but now have to try to win over the general public which will be much tougher. AT the moment he only worthwhile affordable Blu-Ray player is the PS3 which a lot of the non-Gaming public will be reluctant to buy.

Good price, and the 2.0 stuff isn't needed, how often have you wanted to network your DVD player??? Exactly.

IMO the additional features of a PS3 far out weigh this machine at this price.

Don't talk twaddle.

A profile 1.0 player won't be able to do Picture in Picture and won't access online extras. Woopeedoo.

You'll still be able to watch the film and all the other extras (if you want).

Personally, I buy HD films to watch the......film.

I understand what you are saying, but surely the next generation should not just consist of just improved sound and picture, as a lot of the general public will accept the picture quality of DVD. Picture in picture and online extras (as well as downloadable firmware updates) are a very good selling point and will be advertised extensively when profile 2.0 is introduced. Therefore if somebody does not know what they are buying, they will be very annoyed.

Good price for the item posted voted hot. But i think that Blu Ray Players are still way too expensive, after all they only play movies they should be selling Blu Ray recorders ffor this price.
#11
I'd get the PS3.
suspended#12
remember, 11 blu-ray films.... take it as say £10 a film thats £110 off the price so in theory it is only £170. Still, i would say a ps3 is worth the price but i still dont get what the fuss is about with hd-dvd and blu-ray, until there is a decent format that can display up to 2600x1900 resolutions then i believe its not really an improvement over dvd. Pc's have been hd for years, tv just caught up xD.

Voted hot.

Good brand player, all the film titles are pretty good, so I reckon thats a pretty good deal.

Have to agree that getting a PS3 would be my preferred choice, but then not everyone wants to play games and I bet this player has far more features.
#14
Now showing five free movies.

Absolute rubbish, it may not be able to access some of the extras but it will not stop you watching any of the future releases, of course hd-dvd players will not be able to do that as they will not be released on the failed format.

Personally for me i would rather plump for the ps3 for this money as im more a renter of films rather that buyer so the free films dont interest me that much.
#17
HOW MUCH?

You could spend a bit more green and get a PS3 - at least you'd have a platform that will get some support when Sony change the blooray format in a few months.

You should really edit this as it won't be redundant, at worst may have limited features in the future
and where are all these 2.0 machines anyway, :whistling:

Good find, for those of us who would like the films, and couldn't afford them on top of the cost of a PS3 (which we don't want as we are happy with our PC gaming and Wii) this is a bit of a bargain. Voted Hot
#20
Oh, and Sam personally I think it was a good first post.
#21
Good price for this product, PS3 comparison is irrelevant for those who do not want a gaming console and this deal being voted cold is a real shame.
#22
Whats puts me off buying a PS3 is that it has no IR remote control. If like me you have an expensive shiney touchscreen universal remote to control all the many many expensive shiney toys that sit under your telly, you're in trouble with a PS3. Although I did read about a 3rd party add-on for the PS3 to enable IR control.. not sure if it ever saw the light of day though?

Profile 2.0 .. lol. PIP sucks. And I'm happy to burn my firmware updates (which will come what, once a year if you're lucky) to a 5 pence CD-R, rather than lay an extra cable from my bluray player. Online extras? Yawn. Online advertising more like it.. forcing someone to try and navigate web content by any interface other than a PC with a mouse is torture.

Psst, theres this site called hotukdeals.com if you go on there and do a search you can find plenty of great deals for a lot less than "over £300", just don't tell anyone else though...

Im getting a ps3

...the only difference from the profiles seems to be pip and networking. my tv has had pip for many years now and to be honest ive never used it at all. im not sure what pip you have with dvd's watch two scenes at once? or could you watch your tv/freeview/sky/cable on the pip? and networking seems to be for added extra content for movies - but most of these will surely be on the dvd itself like extra/deleted scenes, alternate endings, movie trailers etc. so to be honest the added extra features for profile 2.0 wont kinda be used in the long term generally. And could any new features that come out be added to the profile 2.0 players as a firmware update or would they be classed as profile 2.1 (or other) and then you would need a 2.1 player?

Good price, quite tempted. I don't want a ps3 to watch films cos lets face it, it aint the best looking thing to have under ya tv. I like the look of this - couldn't really care too much about special features. Any got any reviews of this - whats the load times like, remote, any noise, connections stc etc. I have a 360 which i use to stream stuff.

Its not really, you dont have to play games on the PS3, you could think of it as a Blu-ray player that plays games.

yeah but if i wanted a blu-ray player and not a games machine i'd rather get one with 11 free films!!
#30
The panasonic BD30 would be a better standalone bet than this. Thats 1.1 profile. We won't know if theres are film bundles yet though.

Out next week around £300.

Assuming you want a proper piece of AV kit rather than a PS3.

I think what people are saying is the PS3 = a BR player

Now I still find this price too much but it has the real benefit of 11 free films!

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3468512/Samsung-BD-P1400-XEU-Blu-ray-High-Definition-Player/ProductReviews.html

" I have a Blu-ray and HD-DVD player, but know what you are buying into (even with the recent Warner announcement). Sony has subjected profiles with their Blu-ray players. Whilst it is stated the film will still play across all profiles (although there is talk that they might not if advanced BD Java is used for the menus - they old players won't be able to handle it) you all need to know that certain things on your movie disk will not work if you don't have the right profile. Rather than keeping movie watching a simple affair they have now turned it into a constant upgrade process to watch your films. Just like graphics cards in PCs.

Everything I have stated can be backed up with your _own_ research using Google and Wikipedia."
#35
ohh btw ppl who have ps3 you are lucky and probley most of u dont know it but this player can be updated to the lastest firmware whn out if not out yet so it plays everything properly. unlike the profile 1 players

I am glad that the demise of the HD DVD has removed confusion over which format to buy.
