I have two of these - great little players.

Yes, they lack some internet based options but, on the other hand, they have excellent USB media capabilities - I have a 2tb drive connected to one and have yet to find a file it won't play.

Currently own a 'smart' (i.e. less dumb) Sony TV, I can tell you that their smart functions are rubbish. Sluggish, slow, terrible picture quality, poor content and unresponsive.

Really? My sony TV streams IPlayer and Lovefilm content. Not HD quality, but very watchable on 40"

I've seen better internet TV devices, but I've also seen far worse.

It up-scales it so it looks like you are watching a DVD on an old CRT screen, i.e. not pixelated. It's real magic.

Samsung smart TV 's don't so assuming their players won't either.......why would they ? no vested interest in hollywood and a plus for sales.
