Following on from the award-winning STRDH800, the Sony STRDH810 adds a new range of tempting features including the latest HDMI sockets for full 3D compatibility.

As before, the STRDH810 offers a comprehensive range of Dolby and DTS processors to cover all sources from analogue to HD. New to the STRDH810 is Dolby Pro-Logic IIz which makes the most of the Sony's 7.1 channels with a spacious, enveloping sound when watching sources such as TV. In addition to the Dolby and DTS processors, Sony has fitted the STR-DH810 with no fewer than 24 different sound fields. These let you tailor the sound to your exact requirements.

When it comes to power, the Sony puts in a strong showing. The 100 watt amplifier is also able to be used in bi-amp configuration for the choice of improved sound quality when listening in stereo or 5.1. For better sound with iPod and MP3 players, the Sony STRDH810 also features Portable Audio Enhancer.

When it comes to picture quality, the Sony STRDH810 benefits greatly from a video up-converter. This means that any input signal is up-converted to 1080p resolution and outputted via HDMI. Being fully compatible with x.v. Colour, Deep Colour and 24p True Cinema you can be assured that the STRDH810 gets the full potential from any HD source.

Perhaps the most exciting advance over the old 800 is the fitment of the latest spec HDMI sockets. These not only allow for 3D TV pass through but also Audio Return. Audio Return means that just a single HDMI socket from receiver to TV carries both the picture to the TV and the sound back from it - really useful in cutting down the cable clutter! A feature unique to Sony is their Digital Media Port. When used with a selection of optional components, this allows for the integration of a wide range of media products, including Apple's iPod.

Although technically advanced, setting up requires only a minimum of time. BRAVIA Sync links to other Sony BRAVIA products via the HDMI to give exceptional ease of use. Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC) optimises the settings to your room's requirements - at the touch of a button.

Designed to match the latest Sony Blu-ray players but equally at home with a wide range of other components the STRDH810 has the clear, functional design that you'd expect from Sony. When you take it all together it looks like Sony are on to another winner with the STRDH810.

Good price but not a great AV receiver. Sony sucks for AV's like they do with everything else.

you clearly havent heard sony is the benchmark quality brand around here, next you will be suggesting people go and buy an onkyo...haha

joking aside are you basing your opinion on bad dealings you have had with sony or you dislike their quality in general? i have NEVER had a bad product from sony...except my 1st ps3, but they rushed it out tryna dominate over microsoft, then rectified it with the ps3 slim. i am gona be in the market for an AV reciever soon and was gona go with good old sony, being an average user not botherd about complete perfection i will be alright won't i?

Buy onkyo if you like to fry eggs on your kit and love the sound of fans constantly in the background.

But you want the best for your hard earned right??

Yamaha and Denon would be my choices before Sony when purchasing an amp.

Listen to a few....work out what you will require from the amp. Multi-channel inputs were a must for me.
Don't rush your search or plump for the easy option..... enjoy. :)

what speakers should i get with this?
#22
Instead of saying i'd buy yada, yada, yada, book into richer sounds during the week and demo the amp's you want to hear. Like taste in food, everyone is different. Choose the sounds YOU like and not someone at What HiFi or whatever who has been paid to give his opinion, often by the makers of the amps!

exactly the reason why I bought this sony at about £230 a few months ago. It runs cool and I'm very chuffed with it. Only thing I think it potentially misses is an on screen configuration tool rather than controls on face of the receiver. Otherwise top notch machine at a decent price.
#24
wha apeakers did u get with it?
#25
No speakers included wakkaday.

No stock at Leicester and they won't order me one at this price. I saw on last months post for this that RS themselves said the store should at least try and order one, so I'll report back how it goes!

RS have contacted me to confirm an order can be placed on this, in case of no stock at your local store.

I wouldn't buy a Sony consumer level amp (such as the 810, 1010), but the ES range are cracking and my 2400ES which is a 2007 model is still well regarded among AV enthusiasts.
Denon, Yanaha, Sony, Onkyo are pretty much all the same at the same price points, but if you have a Sony TV the BRAVIA Sync can be pretty handy and only works when all the kit is Sony.
