We all went potty about this when amazon were clearing it for about £390 some six or so months ago - now Richer Sounds are clearing their last few for even less! This amp has all the bells and whistles, and blows all others in its class out of the water:

"Engineered for high-end home theatres, the STR-DA2400ES elevated standard (ES) 7.1-channel receiver features sophisticated A/V technology that reproduces the latest audio formats from Dolby Labs (Dolby Digital +/Dolby TrueHD) and dts (dts HD/DTS High Resolution Audio). Expand your listening options via the Digital Media Port input and enjoy music on your MP3 player, PC or XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. You'll also see the difference with Faroudja DCDi Cinema technology which upscales all your video sources to 1080p when connected through HDMI to a compatible HDTV. Additional features include a 100-watt power amplifier (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.09 percent THD), BRAVIA Theater Sync, an easy-to-use graphical interface and four HDMI inputs that are compatible with 1080 60p/24p, Deep Color and x.v.Color video signals. "

What? :?

That's like someone posting a good deal on a tv and you asking why anyone would want it.

You would want this if you're after a superb home cinema amplifier that will support your home cinema and music needs for a bargain budget price. It's obviously not so suitable if you don't have 5 speakers or more.

Hot deal

not voting but you have to be careful with open box stock, it can have a lot of bits missing. i seen a 5.1 speaker set but when i got to the store it was only 3 speakers but it didnt say it on the website.

Good price and deal, but I'd recommend spending more and going for the Denon 1910. I switched from (an older but high end) Sony amp to this Denon and have been seriously impressed by the sound.

For 150 quid more it jolly well should be!

Great amp - and for this price a steal - paid £420 and thought I'd got a bargain when it first came out!
#12
I have this (also has the STR DG820).

Excellent amplifier. Price: awesome.

Really good deal. Even with an open box stock, you can go to the store and check for any missing items and even bargain with them if there is anything missing.

Really really good deal.

Great amp - I paid £400.00 for this when it first came out! cracking sound.

Going to recommend a Samsung are ya? Lol
#16
Does this amp support multi channel audio over hdmi?

or do you have to connect optical and digital outputs for 5.1 or higher

Quality amp from the reviews so far - but this feature would be essential for me
#17
Fantastic amp i bought a few months ago. Would recommend to anyone.

Takes audio over hdmi, including DTSHD MA and Dolby TrueHD.

What a steal, hot hot hot!
#18
I've had the amp since it came out, awesome price for an awesome AV receiver.

Yiddo4life, you would need an optical or coaxial cable to get 5.1 sound for Sky HD or pre-HDMI Xbox 360. Everything else I've plugged into it gets 5.1 audio as trickards says. The Sky / 360 isn't the fault of the amp though. It's how the old 360's were built, and Sky only passes stereo audio over HMDI for some reason.

brilliant amp - I have one - good spot

Why have one? - well to get the best out of any home cinema system - watch a dvd or high def dvd with decent sound quality to get the most out of the experience. Yes, you can watch films on a 19 inch combi dvd-tv but that's not squeezing the best out of the media.

Sadly neither can you get the best from cinema these days - great screens and sound - combined with lip smacking, thirst quenching, crisp crunching, rudely chatting, mobile phoning, what's it got to do with you chavving, what u donna do about it, yooth posing...****heads.

But then I'm named Sheldon and already claim the sweet spot on my sofa.

Go for the amp and be able to rant in high def surround sound. ::roll:

I'd be very surprised if Milky Beanz do have 3. All my experience of this store is that they rarely have more than 1 of anything and the bargain hunters tend to empty the place regularly.

Meh, Onkyo are flavour of the month, that's all. They make great kit, but so do a lot of other people, and it just so happens that Onkyo are the ones getting the love in the mainstream presses right now.

Personally I much prefer Denon.

Now this particular Sony gets a LOT of love, even from the Onkyo crowd, so it really shouldn't be dismissed.
#23
This is a superb AV amp, audio performance is great and connectivity is well taken care of.
#24
great price for a decent AV. Wish I had 300£ budget to get it, only got a £200 one :(

They have been for 3 years! Although I wanted one I couldn't afford it so I have a 1200ES at the moment (I needed analogue audio inputs for my SACD/DVD-A player so I lost out on HDMI audio which annoys me to this day).
#26
I got a onkyo 674 only 2 hdmi in! And no HD sound!
Is the Sony worth getting to update my system ?
Would I gain much on dishing out £299
Got ps3, xbox elite, virgin+
playing on a samsung 50 plasma.

Be quiet.

The Sony QS and ES AV Receivers have always been good quality kit with excellent sound.
#28
Anyone know if this is also good for music? my cambridge audio receiver has just died on me and I need something which is good for movies and music.
#29
It's a cracking amp. However, only ones available are returns which have been repaired. Personally I wouldn't get it, would go for the STR-DH800 instead.

You vote the deal not the product, fine comment we all do but its not crap just because you dont know what it is or want it.

Great price good amp hot.

It's pretty good for music, nothing that a similarly priced stereo amp wouldn't beat. However, if you want something for music AND for satellite/console usage I'd heartily recommend it.
#33
il stick with my vsx919 but this is a hot deal, if you have never owned a home cinema av amp then i sugest you get one :p

that babydoll dress attracted a lot of interest - judging on the number of replies :whistling:

with this it mentions DVD up-scaling, does this mean you would have a normal DVD player that has a HDMI output that goes to this for the visual up scaling then this goes to the TV?? i.e i assume this has no DVD player in it?

Also I have an old surround sound system where the unit no longer recognises remote, could i use the speakers on this? The sub is a built in amp so I don't think I could use that, unless I gut the inside and remove the amp part and hook this up to it? Does this have a sub out?

Is this amp pretty loud? Clear etc?

Im looking it from the point of view how I use my car amp, obviously this is different in terms of features but essentially is this the same in terms of purpose? i.e what else would i need to go with this?

Cheers

Do a search for reviews of this, it's a VERY good amp for the money. If you can get one which is complete for that proce then you got yourself a bargain.

I paid £450 for mine about 6 months ago. They're quite hard to find.
