Following on from the award-winning STRDH800, the Sony STRDH810 adds a new range of tempting features including the latest HDMI sockets for full 3D compatibility.

As before, the STRDH810 offers a comprehensive range of Dolby and DTS processors to cover all sources from analogue to HD. New to the STRDH810 is Dolby Pro-Logic IIz which makes the most of the Sony's 7.1 channels with a spacious, enveloping sound when watching sources such as TV. In addition to the Dolby and DTS processors, Sony has fitted the STR-DH810 with no fewer than 24 different sound fields. These let you tailor the sound to your exact requirements.

When it comes to power, the Sony puts in a strong showing. The 100 watt amplifier is also able to be used in bi-amp configuration for the choice of improved sound quality when listening in stereo or 5.1. For better sound with iPod and MP3 players, the Sony STRDH810 also features Portable Audio Enhancer.

When it comes to picture quality, the Sony STRDH810 benefits greatly from a video up-converter. This means that any input signal is up-converted to 1080p resolution and outputted via HDMI. Being fully compatible with x.v. Colour, Deep Colour and 24p True Cinema you can be assured that the STRDH810 gets the full potential from any HD source...

100 watts per channel @ 8 ohms is the important figure...

Good reviews by the way although its like anything, if you pay more you will get better.

I have a Pioneer VSX 420 I only paid £99.99 at Christmas and I am more than happy with that with a set of Jamo's. It does me fine as don't need the 3D capabilities etc of this (yet), although I may have to convince the wife that we 'need' another amp for upstairs and may swap them around :p

nothing special i'm afraid...

I got this for £220 a couple of months ago, and I'm more than happy with it. I did a lot of research with a £250 budget, and decided that it was the best for that price. I'm sure a lot will say that Onkyo are better, but there were quite a few reviews reporting problems with the similarly priced one, so I steered clear. For two hundred sheets, you can't go wrong with this. It got What Hi-Fi's award for the best AV Receiver for under £300 not long back!

They are very similar in spec and price. Yamaha can pass hd video from component to hdmi which is usefull if you have one of the old xbox 360s without HDMI.
