i bought this 13 days ago for £299 then rang today as its now down to £250 and as i was buying £300 worth of speakers they refunded me £50

anywhoo

the amp is stunning and looks great and sounds great (with decent speakers)

best thing for me is that now my 360 elite will play through it as its HDMI v1.4

ive no idea what most of the functions do but i recommend the shop, the unit & the warranty

This looks like the cheapest place around...seems like a good deal.

You've no idea how tempting it is for me too... The amp that came with my DDWG800 surround kit doesn't do HDMI1.4, which is a bit of a pain.

Seems about £40 to £50 cheaper than elsewhere and has a five star review from whathifi (although not sure this counts for much (_;) ). Offer has been extended until 06 October 2010 according to the VIP email I just received from RS.

Seriously tempted to get either the Sony or pay £30 extra and get the Onkyo 508. Decisions decisions.......

I wouldn't touch Onkyo with a barge pole.

Your 360 would have played audio fine through it if it was HDMI V1.3, 1.4 supports enhanced video resolution (as well as the usual audio support of V1.3) for 3D Displays.

The heat issues with Onkyo always put me off.

it is a good price! how does this compare with a similar priced Yamaha (RXV467) amp ?
#11
would the sony not go better with the Tannoy speakers ?

Possibly, Sony receivers are generally bright, and so are Jamo speakers..Tannoys are warmer, it is recommended to pair bright sounding amps with warm speakers, but it is al down to taste, and whether you are using this predominantly for home cinema or if you are considering music as well. Try a demo of both speakers in store.

Bah,

Richer Sounds get you in the shop with some deal then flog you something else out of the back thats covered in dust. Most people like you lot can't tell the difference anyway.

Get to Currys or Dixons, they have the 'Goodmans DX2990' with 5 disk multichanger in at the moment.

Nice machine is that.

get this & the 1010i package for £500. good package :D

I have an Onkyo 706 and never had an issue with it -in open cabinet and its used every night .
Just bought a 508 to go with my new 3d tv and speakers (Wharfedale)

Got the previous model (STR-DH800) a couple of months ago for £229, so this is a good deal for the newer version.

Bit of a challenge to set up (the manual isn't all that helpful, and I'm not even a blonde..) but worth the effort, sound is really good.

Only if you let them, I treat them like Argos, ring, reserve, and collect new stock only.

I have the older STR-DG820 and used to have those speakers, but I sold them and picked up these:
http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/q-acoustics/1010i-5.1/qaco-1010i-5.1-pack

One of the best decisions I ever made, the Jamo's are OK for their size, but are more style over substance. You diefinately won't regret spending the extra £80.

Bought nearly all my Hi-fi gear from Richers for the last 15 years and no complaints what so ever. Although I'm guessing the goodmans comment is made in jest? oO

I signed up for VIP last week and today, received the email with this offer in it
Is it a case of printing off the email and walking into the local store with print out and buying at 249.99?

Cheers

You can, although you can just tell them in store you are a VIP member, they have on the computer the VIP price, basically with Richer Sounds verbally tell them anything else they will always charge you in store price, sometimes prices on the web are cheaper (none VIP) once again tell them the web price and they will override store price.
