Whats the difference between something like this and a cheap 99p pair of 3d glasses?
These are powered active glasses meaning they have a battery in them, the cheapo 99p one are passive and non-powered and will not work with Sony TV's. It's like trying to put diesel in a petrol car.

It was actually. I'm fairly tech savvy (building pc's, servers, etc) but never really got in to 3d stuff so didn't have a clue.

Amazing on a Sony - try Coraline 3D. Buy at this price.

This is why they reduced the price for the TDGBR250.
It's worth the £30 easily. I've been watching on my Sony HX823 and the picture is very good, I am happy even though I don't use it all the time.
I agree with Shaman in that after a while there is some discomfort.
