Good Spot Scoobies  , I think this is slightly better deal than Original post, having Latest Dual Core processor and separate Nvidea graphics card and deserves a new deal post.

Hi all, just to say i have recently bought the FS515H (£700+) and before i had a FS115B (same series and looks) i was so impressed with the first one i bought another one!

There a great light weight laptop, fast and the screen is great for gaming and DVD's.

Just to add there are 3 USB ports not 2 as in edi's post

Can we confirm the warranty is 2 years?

On the ebuyer site it states that the warranty is for only 1 year, hopefully my eyes aren't playing tricks on me!! :)

Hi Bookshifter, just to confirm it's only a one year warranty. Info taken from the Vaio site.

Still a great deal for that money

Edi, any chance of confirming where you got the info from and updating the main post?

Sorry Guys ... warranty is ONE Year only :|

Since ebuyer hasnt got detailed specs, I had to copy the specs from Vaio site and warranty got mixed up. Apologies again :-(

I have a FS315B - beautiful laptop - but beware the 4200Rpm hard drive makes the whole thing really quite sluggish... and you cant upgrade the graphics on 99% of laptops, so its really worth getting a dedicated card rather than intergrated. It says 3.7hours on the battery - but youre lucky if you get an 1.5hrs. But it has a lovely feel and looks very expensive, good price. My 2p

I do need to get a new laptop sometime soon. I'm really not sure what to go for so this might be an option. Looking at something around the £500 mark.

Me too, Ricky and I am running out of time. The recent comet post and Fujitsu dou core R looking attractive, without bustin my credit card too much - under £500 .....

A friend of mine is looking for a laptop, on a typical 'good but cheap' price range - I know that doesnt make sense

In my opinion the 4 best laptop deals that I know of are:

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&oc=N096M1
Dell 640M @ £565

http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/572_337307.html
FUJITSU AMILO PI 1505 @ £499

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Lenovo_3000_N100_Dual_Core_TY04HUK/version-1.asp
Lenovo 3000 N100 Dual Core @ £600

http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=3382-6301
Zoostorm 2-6301 15.4" Advanced Laptop @ £549*

*The pcnextday offer is a 'too good to be true' type of offer - delivery is a whopping £39 and the wait is 3 weeks .... have read on the PcPro website that people who ordered 5 weeks ago are still waiting for delivery.

I have never dealt with laptopdirect but I always distrust sites that have credit card surcharges (0.9% or 2.5% for AMEX).

That leaves the Comet and Dell offer. I suppose Dell offers you some customisation options and Comet is a high street name.

In the end I advised my friend to go down the Comet route ......... whether my advice has been taken I have yet to find out!

I really would have considered the Sony if the warranty had been 2 years. Compared to the Dell/Comet offer it seemed underspecced e.g RAM.

There are other offers but I discounted anything that did not have dual-core!!

If the build quality of the lenovo laptops are anywhere near the build quality of the ibm laptops i would say that is an excellent price. I have had an IBM T40 for the past 3 years and it is bomb proof, being used daily and living in my rucksack.

Having missed their 'up to 4 weeks for delivery' schedule on my order for this very model I'm actually about to write a semi-furious e-mail asking for them to either waive their excessive delivery charge or make me a good offer on either a 512 or 1gb slot of RAM as a goodwill gesture.

I wrote them an e-mail early last week and they replied: 'I would like to confirm that your laptop is currently being completed and will be despatched for delivery shortly.'

It still hadn't been dispatched by thurs so decided to ring them, they said it was probably due to arrive on Mon - which of course it hasn't :x

Edit:
Here's what I wrote:

Hi,

As my laptop has still not been dispatched would you be prepared to either waive the
delivery charge or make a decent offer on either a 512 or 1gb slot of RAM as a goodwill gesture?

Quite infuriated given that there was no hesitation in debiting my card way back in August!

Thanks,

Matt

Already had a reply from Steve, who's fulltime job must be handling damage control:

'Please accept our apologies for the delay with your delivery. I would like to confirm that we have laptop orders being despatched this week and we will email you with confirmation of your delivery date once received.

If you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the customer services department.'

In reply to MBeeching's post I'd say that:

There should be a law that prohibits the debiting of credit card/debit cards until the goods have started the shipment process and left the factory/warehouse.

If you look at the invoices for various companies they always says something like 'goods remain property of XYZ Ltd until payment has been settled in full' blah blah etc.

The money should stay with the customer until the item has shipped.

I hope that you can resolve ur problem with pcnextday ....... I was real tempted to buy from them but I don't think I can cope with too much stress and the wait

515H is a better machine than the 515E ones centrino Pentium and the other is celeron cpu. If thats the 2 your asking to compare, its getting confusing now ;-)

I went to Costco today and happened to see this laptop (515H) for sale at £589ish inc VAT. A worker there informed me that they had an ex display model available in the back.
It was fully boxed with everything as standard. No marks or scratches. He priced it at £349.97 + VAT which came to around £410 inc VAT!! also a 6 Months return and warranty to Costco and the remaining 6 months with manufacturer!
Obviously snapped it up straightaway and am just about to open it up! :-D

In other exciting news...

My Zoostorm laptop has arrived today! Now if only I didn't have to work til 6 before I test some games on it (Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Half-Life 2).

I could hardly sleep last night with the worry that i'd never receive it and my £580 was long gone :)

Managed to spend 30 mins over lunch having a quick play around (Luckily PCWorld managed to deliver Company of Heroes to work today so didn't have to wait til I got home to test a game out - Impressived it arrived on launch day).

Obviously not had the opportunity to tinker about tweaking settings but I reckon if it can handle this power hungry title I can expect good things from any other title on the market. Back with a full report/review of the machine after the weekend though.
