add £40 for 410m dedicated graphics card, Worth it in my opinion

Good price for a sandy bridge, 17inch screen, blu-ray drive and premium brand.

Can someone message me and explain how I can update the link?

I went right through the order process for both the black and the white models and I was advised a 10/11 weeks delivery time so geezer0769 it might be worth checking your order seeing as you want it for xmas for your daughter.

If I have got it wrong please let me know and point me in the right direction as I wanted one for a xmas present as well.

the 410m optional graphics doesnt seem any better than the inbuilt intelhd.

It doesn't tell me the lead time when I log in....but it mentioned 4 to 5 weeks when I went through the process yesterday. I have a message now saying it is going through the production process! I really hope I get it for Xmas...took my daughter to Curry's to look at the 17" they had on display and she loved it. It was £799 - only differences were i5 Processor, 6GB RAM and 640GB HD - same Blue Ray player. I am hoping with Quidco this comes in at under £400!
#13
Good luck hope and you get it for xmas as it really is a good deal and same with me as I was going through the order process it was quoting 4/5 weeks but right at the end before clicking place order thats when it said 10/11 weeks, shame really as everything seemed right about this one except delivery for xmas. ,

The 410M is very slow, similar speed to Intel's integrated HD3000 so I wouldn't say its worth a £40 upgrade. The money is better spent on the i5 or a SSD upgrade which will give you a faster overall computer.

I'm probably being dim, but how do you get this for £429 with free blu-ray? As the original post says, you need to upgrade the processor to get the blu-ray, and that adds another £100 on....

EDIT - I was looking at the 15 rather than 17" version. Ignore me.

Just bought the i5 one for £520 --Bargain for a Sony Vaio with the i5 processor and 6 GB Ram plus free Blu-ray upgrade. This deal won't last long so grab it while you can! :)

Would recommend an upgrade to an i5 as it is definitely worth it.

Lovely build quality on Sony laptops

take it you have never physically held one of these then?
#27
Ordered one of these last week when they were doing the free 1gb graphics card upgrade, like this you had to upgrade to the i3 processor. Mines in production and should be delivered the end of next week or the early part of the following week so 3 week delivery for me.

1600x900 is a mediocre resolution for a 17" screen. It makes everything onscreen big and limits how much you can fit onscreen at a time relative to the screen size...

WOW great deal 8)

I don't really know if this is a good deal or not, as I'm not i the market at the moment. 2 things stand out though.

Why assume that because something has a 'name' that it is better than one from a specialist? Sony is a mass producer of so many things that it must have strengths and weaknesses across it's range.

Why this obsession with getting something for Christmas? Most things are much better value after Christmas, so why not buy a token gift to open on the 25th and save money on the expensive stuff later?

Sainsbury's in their Laptop Clearance are selling a White Sony Vaio i3 320GB 3GB Ram for £249. Not 100% sure of the exact model, sorry. No Blu Ray on it though.
#34
Not much of a deal per se, as the prices are like this all the time. The only difference is that every now and then they switch up what the free upgrade is. Right now its a free blu-ray drive, a few weeks ago I saw that they were offering a free upgrade to an i5.

With that being said, its probably best to wait until the free upgrade is on the PC component you value the most.
#35
Seems cheap enough for me but I prefer the i7 processor and Full HD screen. Pointless playing Blu-ray films on anything less.
#36
When are sony going to do that vat back thing again?
#37
I tried to book one and the deal seems to be expired!!!!!!!!!

do it over the phone like i did
#39
I personally would not buy these vaios; loads of cheap plastic and awful battery life; got one (series E 14) and I witness that everyday; and get an i5 if you want a serious laptop; Sony is slowly becoming a cheap label with enormous prices; the sony centre down the road is always empty.....have a look at asus......i'll see what i can get for you now..
