Hate to point this out again as i have done now in a number of threads but this is in my opinion this is still a much better deal http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/654/861/-/5890835/Hewlett-Packard-Pavilion-DV7-1000EA-Core-2-Duo-P7350-2GHz-4GB-320GB-17-Blu-Ray-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook-Includes-100/Product.html?searchtype=genre comes to £631.45 with plays 5% voucher and hps £100 cash back offer

Has 2GB more RAM, Has a better grahics card and although the processor in the sony is meant to be better in than the hp according the bench mark tests it is infact the hps processor that comes out on top.

Yes the sony has a bigger HDD but just buy yourself and external one with the moeny you save. Only thing the sony has the hp does not is bluetooth but a usb adaptor costs next to nothing.

Didnt notice that but that alone is not worth an extra £120 especially when you consider the step up in graphics card you are getting in the hp and the extra 2gb or ram.

Also i believe that the blu ray writer in the machine is a bit old already as it only burns at 2x and i read that you can get 12x writers, obviously they are going to cost a lot more but before i get a blu-ray burner i will wait at least a year until the price come down drastically but i guess the fact that it has the writer makes the price a bit more resoanable

There are some stupid people on this site, who just vote cold without even thinking...

The HP you are talking about is £770, has less HDD space and does not include a Blu Ray writer (it does't matter about the writing speed of the Blu Ray (as it still will write DVDs/CDs faster) the main thing is it is a writer..

This is a laptop that is £1400 usually and is at this discount price.. Now concerning your statement about RAM, These guys have a double memory offer and you could easily get another 2GB for around £50.

But lets not forget that a 32 bit OS only shows 3.3GB of RAM.

So with this laptop you get an extra 80GB HDD space, a better processor, Bluetooth & Blu Ray Writer.

But I have to say that the HP deal is a good deal, but this a Sony Vaio and comparing two different makes that are totally different compared to there build.

I find HPs to be very bulky and my personal preference is a Vaio, but each to there own.

As i have already pointed out the HP by itself at £770 is a bit rich for my liking but as Play are offering 5% at the moment (you can find the voucher in these forms in any play offer) which makes the machine 731.50 and during november hp is offering £100 cash back on certain machines over £600 this being one of them and therefore making this machine £631.50, £120 cheaper that sony machine. Factor in the £50 the you are saying to double the ram that makes it £170 cheaper. Might as well make them equal by adding a 80gb external HDD for the hp to make it fair so let say and that is still £140 cheaper

The HP has a much better graphics card that the sony, and at this price point it is the graphics cards that really seperate the machine. I know that you are claiming that the Sony has a better processor but in the bench mark test that i have read the sonys processor actually comes out on top, not by much but still better.

As for the blu ray writer as i pointed out they are still very over priced which makes this sony over priced for the other hardware that you get in but if you really did want a blu ray writer then you could always buy an external starting at £115 still making the HP machine cheaper and better simple due to the graphics card
