Description

The VAIO AR Series marks another industry milestone for VAIO in terms of both design and capabilities. With its high-resolution widescreen display, dual-core processor and integrated Blu-ray optical drive, the AR Series is more than just a powerful mobile computer.

Thanks to the innovative use of strong but lightweight materials in its construction and attention to ergonomics in its design, the AR Series is easy to use at home or at the office and light enough for working anywhere in-between. All of which means that whatever your demands, and however you choose to use it, the AR Series can open the doors to a host of new creative, commercial and recreational possibilities.
For the user on the move who wants desktop performance wherever their work may take them, the AR Series combines everything you would expect in a notebook with two items that you wouldn't - a High Definition optimised 17" ultra widescreen display, and the latest Intel dual-core processor.
It means that as well as offering wireless connectivity and portability, you also have the power, screen size and resolution to get the most from professional software.

A larger viewing area makes it easier to use floating palettes or open documents side-by-side, while the boost to performance also makes it simple to work with audio and video editing applications that require both high resolution displays and high speed processing. Plus as the screen benefits from Sony's next generation X-Black technology, definition is always sharper and brighter with almost no glare, so it is more comfortable to use for longer periods and less tiring on the eyes.

any good?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (using now!) which is about 5 years old. It is fantastic. I have never had any problems with it, no sticky keys, nothing! It powers up quickly and the screen resolution is much better than my hubby's new laptop, which is supposed to be the best!

I would love to upgrade but I can't as there is nothing wrong with this one! A double edged sword you could say! LOL

If you are considering a Sony, I would highly recommend and I also have a Sony Cybershot which is completely compatable with the laptop (although you should expect that I guess!!) and again a great camera!
#4
3.8kg... ouch!
excellent spec but for slow hard drive and low res screen
#5
I have the ar61m and using it to type this, there very good the screens are sharp, and they do run some good games, yeah they are very very very heavy for a laptop, my knees ache after awhile but still worth the cash
#6
Big price but some bit of kit.
#7
3.8kg? this is the kind of laptop you have to use as a desktop replacement and leave it on the desktop because it isn't really portable

I know Vaio's have great build quality but I had to replace my old 3.2kg laptop with one weighing 2kg (a Dell M1330) because 3kg is too much to carry around for long... 3.8kg would be way too heavy if you need any portability

Yes it does have fire wire. It's also gone up to £750. Sorry £700 with voucher.

TBH you are paying all the extra for the bluray player and its not a full HD screen. So you may want to look at the Dell Inspiron studio 1735.

Battery Life: 1.35 Hours

... that is criminal!!

What was the screen size?? 15.4??

sorry yes it was 15.4 but its still £200 cheaper than the above, but the above does have a 2.1 cpu over the acer's 2.0 duo core and a 300 gb hd compared to the acers 250 so i guess if you want the extra hd and slightly faster cpu pay the extra £200.

HDMI and blutooth also

Some of the laptop prices at the Sony Style store for the FW range have been reduced recently so it's worth checking out considering that you can get Quidco. I went to a local Sony Centre at the weekend and picked up the FW11L which is similar to the E but has a Blu Ray drive (read only) and they priced matched the FW11E price from the Sony Style site.

may i ask what sony style shop please as the one in manchester the staff dont seem very nice, how you get it at £649.99 i have no idea, but which is a better laptop, sooooo confused
#25
It was the Leicester store. The standard price in the store was £699 but they were happy to knock £50 off without any hassle at all when I said I was actually looking to buy the 11E which they didn't have. The 11L has 1GB less RAM than the 11E but has the Blu Ray drive, so considering a new stick of RAM is about £20 tops it was a decent deal.

this is still available, please unexpire

just bought 1 from amazon trade for 587 brand new with an unsealed box

price 679.99 now
