Thanks to the innovative use of strong but lightweight materials in its construction and attention to ergonomics in its design, the AR Series is easy to use at home or at the office and light enough for working anywhere in-between. All of which means that whatever your demands, and however you choose to use it, the AR Series can open the doors to a host of new creative, commercial and recreational possibilities.
For the user on the move who wants desktop performance wherever their work may take them, the AR Series combines everything you would expect in a notebook with two items that you wouldn't - a High Definition optimised 17" ultra widescreen display, and the latest Intel dual-core processor.
It means that as well as offering wireless connectivity and portability, you also have the power, screen size and resolution to get the most from professional software.

A larger viewing area makes it easier to use floating palettes or open documents side-by-side, while the boost to performance also makes it simple to work with audio and video editing applications that require both high resolution displays and high speed processing. Plus as the screen benefits from Sony's next generation X-Black technology, definition is always sharper and brighter with almost no glare, so it is more comfortable to use for longer periods and less tiring on the eyes.

no it's not, it is still the price that the deal states it is

and as for the deal i think that i will stick to my hp that has pretty much the same spec as this but has a much better gpu and cost me £10 less but i will not vote it cold as that is not much that has the spec and brand of this for that price at the mo

good deal, are the models that write blu-ray discs with the 18.4" screens...slightly better specs not worth the extra money though no?...Not that I plan on recording any blu-ray discs at the moment.

Depends on what you are going to use the machine for, the machine has very good specs apart from the graphics card that lets it down massively. I would expect this to play many modern games but if you do not need it for graphic intensive purposes then maybe the price is justifed with the other high end specs. When I get time later today i will have a look to see if i can find anything with equal specs at a better price.

thanks yeah I've been looking for a while ... sony has a bit of a monopoly with the recordable blu ray drives in laptops I think... vaios have always been good to me so think I might go for this... Don't do much demanding graphics stuff really ...shame it's not the piano black one though!

Sorry for Hi Jacking this thread.

I don't know if I'm reading the specs correctly but I can't see a HDMI out in the one I posted... But is it true that the normal monitor output in laptops produces a better quality picture than HDMI anyway except that new out on the Macs?

This might seal the deal for me...

"Enjoy superb 2.1 channel sound performance with the VAIO AW-Series. These VAIOs feature an integrated subwoofer... "

Sony really don't mess about do they.

You must have missed, the one that you listed has this in the specs
"TV Out: 1 x TV-Out (HDMI)

Yes you are correct it does have hdmi out... according to some sites the AWs even have fingerprint readers (but of a gimmick but pretty swish if they do!) I also found out that the glossy black ones are truely full HD models... pixmania says they are all full hd this is not true...pixmania is full of mistakes I've noticed today.

I found the laptop you posted slightly cheaper here http://www.microwarehouse.co.uk/catalogue/item/SONB0285 no idea what the company is like but it might be worth you looking into them to save a couple of quid.

Pixmania are a terrible company and i would never buy anything off them, i am going to assume that the one they have listed is actually a different model even though the model numbers are the same as it for one it does not have a HD screen and 2 it does not have a 9600 gs graphics card in it

lol @ pixmania are terrible... you are too right, I bought one thing from a while ago them and it turned out to be ok in the end, but it was such a process to order through them, multiple e-mails back and forth and phone calls...not again for me thanks! Also noticed that they market this laptop with 18.4" then 14.4" screen what clowns.
