This was rated at -4 with no comments. Since I hate drive-by neggers, I've added heat.
If you are going to neg. a listing, at least have the guts to say why. It doesn't look too bad, actually.

Cheers ;-)

I actually have one but i paid £900 a few months back for mine  and that was the cheapest price at the time.

Its a high end lappie, great spec with lots of toys.

voted hot, I just paid the same for EXACTLY the same spec DELL XPS1530, so if your after a17" blu ray gaming machine its def worth a punt!!
#4
Nice machine, rubbish resolution for that size display, hence a - :)
#5
8600GT has problems with overheating or so I read somewhere
#6
i have the ar61s which has 400gb and t8100 but otherwise the same machine

has blu ray writer included as well

not best price as its currently 779 on play with 5% off making it around 735

still an amazing machine and an amzing screen even with inly 1440 rez which is the only thing letting this lappy down but looking at a grand for a sony high rez

I thought the + & - was supposed to based on the cheapest price for the item rather than on the item itself?

How do you get the 5% off?

Cheers - I was going to vote this hot as I have been keeping an eye on the AR71S prices (see my previous post) and £749.99 is the best price out there...but with 5% off (and 0.5% quidco I assume) Play trumps it. I'm am soooo close to buying this from play now. Was going to wait until the new full HD AW series drops in price but this is so tempting.

i been watching the price as well mate and the play price keeps fluctuating between 779/899/1299 over the last few weeks id grab it now if i were you

i bought the a71m without the bluray writer for 640gbp then i saw the ar61m with blu ray writer for 570 and couldnt resist , so now i got 2 and gotta off load the a71m

This is probably a desktop replacement right.
#14
I am using the AR21S right now. This is a good price for the model. I would not purchase an AR series machine without a 1080P screen resolution though.

with the full res screen, it's a wonderful machine. Definately a desktop replacement unless you are big and strong. Also worth noting that it will not fit into any standard laptop bags / rucksacks, even most ones which state they are for 17" models, so check carefully before buying a bag. I got a sony one, but it was very expensive.
#15
well on play its for 789, so after 5% voucher and possible quidco it just comes down to 745 :( not 735
#16
Great deal for the spec of this machine. If you ad Quidco its just over £700. Heat added for that, good find.

However look out for the Nvidia 8600 GPU. Massive failure rates (Google it and see how much Nvidia are likely to be sued for!) due to dodgey manufacturing. There is a workaround but this is beleived to shorten the life of you PC considerably (the constant fan running will also kills the battery quickly).

If you want a better spec from a good brand name then you will probably have to pay more.

Worth a punt though if you want to take a chance.

also cant find any widespread problem with this graphics card, odd case here and there maybe another model you talking about

I think its G84 and G86 series cards that are affected (i.e 8600, 8400, etc). If you type nvidia 8600 fault into Google this is the top link (but take your pick of any of them as they all say the same thing - the 8600 and 8400 kill your laptop soonner or later).

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/703/1028703/nvidia-g84-g86-bad

Nvidia appear not to want to admit fault but those people that have had to return their laptops in their droves to HP and Dell tend to think otherwise. Obviously when they eventually found a PC that they could use to get back on the net they were quite vocal about it as well.

If you are going to buy one type 'nvidia 8600 fault' into google and make up your own mind

The top link is:
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/703/1028703/nvidia-g84-g86-bad

but there are loads of others to choose from that say more or less the same thing - the 8400 and 8600 GPU kills your laptop sooner or later. Aparently Dell and HP have been floded with complaints and returns. Those owners that eventually gt back on the net seem quite aggreived as well.

Were there any 1080p ARs? I thought it was only 1080p output via the HDMI socket.

Cheers...I was a bit worried that I'd missed something. I recon 1440x900 has got to be pretty good on a 17 inch screen. I'm soooo torn though....get this great AR deal now (pretty sure there won't be any more in the UK after this bunch are sold) or wait for the AW to drop a bit (maybe to £1000 for the VGN-AW 11Z/B or 21Z/B....in six months or so)

Pretty sure I won't be able to resist if the AR71S drops to £699.99 for the last few though....:whistling:

Oh cripes...just looked on play...it's £769.99...that's about £725 with quidco and 5% off........
