First deal so go easy on me! Does anyone think this is a reasonable laptop for the money.

Well you are paying £140 more than the Acer currently on the boards, but getting the Sony Vaio reputation. Also comes with Vista ready installed. Interested to see what the more laptop savvy think.

I am NEVER getting a VAIO again. Extremely noisy and slow, keys that fade and support from Sony is a nightmare. Not worth the "reputation".
Got a Medion for my brother which is amazing - next to silent, much faster and 1/2 price compared to Sony with same specs.

My vaio is pretty good, except for the speed of the hard drive, a paltry 4200Rpm, this ones a bit better, but a 7200Rpm drive would be ideal.

Sony laptops/PCs are overpriced..they seem to get away with it because of the "sony" brand name when all the stuff inside is much the same as other brands...my friend's Vaio laptop has suffered a failed CPU and recently a failed CDRW drive ...he was not best pleased as it happened just outside of the warranty....my advice is to seek another brand at realistic prices...the £499 Acer comes to mind.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I had been steering clear of Acer - my company bought 20 of them and within 8 months over half had gone on the blink. I thought this was good as I had heard Sony had a good reputation, perhaps not! Also I saw the model in a shop and the screen really stood out in a line of machines for being clear and bright. RRP is £749 so thought was good deal. 2% quidco also.

Cheers

A quick warning about LaptopsDirect:

Yes, their Acer laptop prices are unbeatable (although Comet currently has a fab Acer with Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM, 120Gb, 256Mb Ge7300 graphics, WinMCE for £649) but their customer service is non-existant.

I placed my order with them last Tuesday by next-day delivery, the parcel got lost (it took the couriers until Friday to admit this) and, despite calling LaptopsDirect every day, asking THEM to find out what was going on and to keep me informed, they didn't do a thing. I didn't receive one phonecall from them, they just left me to chase up the couriers each day.

Really really bad service, and I won't be using them again. Reading other reviews about them on the web, I don't seem to be the only one.

Do buy Acer Laptops... but I strongly recommend you get one from a high street store instead.

I totally agree with that. My very first phone call was answered as if I was doing them a favour by buying from them. I never bothered them again. :x

P.S: I personally think this is a very good price for the laptop. It IS Sony...
