My eyes must be going but how do you get the VAT back?

Does it automatically come off when you pay for it?

In the main box stating Sony VAT back...

Sony VAT Back

If you're looking to buy a TV, camera, laptop or other electronic item, you now have the opportunity to beat the impending VAT rise and pay no tax whatsoever. Until midnight on Christmas Eve, Sony are offering the VAT back on the ex-VAT price of a variety of selected products, including TVs, Blu-ray players, home theatre systems, cameras, camcorders and laptops bought from Amazon.co.uk between 28th October - 24th December 2010.

How to Claim

1. Add your chosen Sony product from below to your basket by clicking "Add to Basket", follow the checkout process and confirm your order.

2. You can check the amount of money you'll be saving by entering the price of the item you would like into the VAT calculator (what's this?).

3. Once you have received your item, download and read carefully this claim form (what's this?), which also includes Sony's Terms & Conditions.

4. Complete the claim form and send with the original Amazon invoice and European Guarantee Information Document (where supplied with your Sony product) and send them to: Sony VAT Cashback Promotion, PO Box 100, Diss, Norfolk IP98 1SY.

The qualifying purchase dates are 28th October 2010 to 24th December 2010 inclusive. The final date for claims is 31st January 2011.

This promotion applies only to selected products (as detailed in Section 7 of Sony’s Terms and Conditions) purchased as new from Amazon.co.uk (subject to availability) between 28 October and 24 December 2010, and does not include products purchased from Amazon’s third party Marketplace unless otherwise stated. This promotion is offered by Sony who will provide the cashback directly to you. Neither Amazon EU Sarl or its affiliates will have any liability to you in respect of this promotion.

The only proof of purchase is the sales receipt showing the retailer VAT information. The date on that receipt is the purchase date regardless of order date, payment date or delivery date. In accordance with the Terms & Conditions (what's this?) , the decision of the promoter is final.

Amazing resolution, but two reviews on amazon don't seem to rate it...even though they are less than useless as reviews.

There's nothing about battery. Someone know anything how long it will work?

Amazon are slightly misleading there. The screen res is 1024x600. The maximum external VGA resolution is 1400x1050. Got the info from the Sony site.

Good price for a Sony. But the build quality doesnt look as good as other Vaios I have had. At the end of the day, what do you want for the money?

From the page

I regret buying this damned thing ... ugly, ill designed, a wretched little product which should not have been made available on Amazon.

Inspiring!

Battery life sounds pretty poor as well.

Note others *

This is a sony 10.1" netbook , and not a full size laptop !!

Contradiction on resolution - it mentions 10.1 Inch 1400 x 1050 resolution, and then goes on to mention Resolution: 1024 x 600.

I think that the latter sounds more likely.

Can someone add the following to the post? Cheers

EDIT:

The contradicted RESOLUTION actually is

Basically, this means it can't play FULL HD movies on an external monitor or TV

Nice aspect ratio, though! (if you read stuff more than you watch stuff)

On a small screen, it is can be hard to read text and websites on a wide-screen (16:9) display because of the amount if scrolling down you have to do. Because this has a ratio of 16:10, it is better suited to word-processing and reading web-pages than many other small laptops/netbooks.
However, this Sony would not be as good for watching movies as a widescreen netbook.
Also, it is not capable of displaying Full HD on an external TV / monitor.

Amazon description is wrong, heres what it should read:
- Graphics card Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
- integrated with CPU for increased energy efficiency
- supports up to 1400 x 1050 pixel external display resolution
- Screen type Widescreen LCD
- Screen resolution - 1024 x 600 pixels

.... so its really no better than all the other netbooks on the market.

The older VAIO W that this replaced was the one with the hi-res screen, 1366 x 768... and it could output at 1920 x 1080 to external monitors so this thing is a joke by comparison.
