I like sony, and this does look cool - until i noticed it had no mouse (accept a nipple)! For this price you could get a good spec full size laptop and a high spec netbook like the NC10 - get real sony!

Sony have been very arrogant with the pricing of this model, but you just know it will sell.

If it's not a netbook, what is it?

It uses an atom processor, has a small hard drive, small form factor, poor graphics card etc etc.

The only thing that makes this stand out from the crowd of other netbooks, is the wierd shaped design, and Vista. And I doubt that Vista will run very well on a 1.33GHz atom with 2GB of ram.

In my opinion, if a netbook suits your needs, the NC10, MSI Wind et al, are much better alternatives, with faster processors, bigger hard drives, track pads, xp/mac osx.

And they're loads cheaper than this Sony too.

It will once they reduce the price

It could be massively pointless - if their production costs are so high for this model then it might have too small a market to be viable at the price they need to obtain for it............

agreed

That's a lot of money for a netbook ;-) Remember full Linux distro's and soon-to-be Windows 7 will run on the newer netbooks anyway, so it doesn't look like a good value purchase from here. I'm not even an big advocate of 'netbooks' - for most people an entry level ultra-portable laptop would probably be better for similar money.

No, it has an Atom Z processor, not the Atom N like in other Netbooks.

So the Z is only 2W rather than 2.5W and has Intel x86 Virtualisation (presuming the BIOS allows it to run). It's still 20% slower (frequency) than the N270.

The vast majority of potential netbook buyers will not really be interested in whether the processor is N or Z.

They will be interested in it being 1.33GHz or 1.6GHz.

The power consumption saving of the Z is very marginal.

anyway, 'Z' is just an 'N' on it's side
and 'N' is next to 'M' as in Mersey
