If your set on a Sony would probably go with this. Tesco have it for £10 more but there is probably a voucher kinking about to bring the price down.
Well ive seen the same spec samsung for £220 and acers for around £170 same spec, unless you want the sony badge thumbs down for me...
Or as a nice alternative (very good build and an ION graphics card to boot so will do 1080p output to a tv etc etc, as well as DDR3 memory and potential for built in 3G as an option)
From £299 (free delivery) I personally have one of these (1010SA option which is £299) and its a fantastic bit of kit, can play 1080p movies on my 42" tv, gives me the ability to do some mild gaming (plays, Fallout 3, Counterstrike, Half Life 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, etc quite well)
Also only uses 19w peak load lol

Battery lasts 1.5 hours gaming (normally at least 60 mins but had 90 a few times)

If gaming is not your thing then media playback is still a massive bonus, as well as upto 5.5 hours normal operation whilst not hammering games (so typing etc on a train is perfect on this)

Thought I would mention it as an alternative

As for the machine, again if Sony is what you want great but the build quality of the Compaq mentioned above is truely awesome as well as tons more bang for your buck and same amount of ram hdd and XP

EDIT: Just noticed they are now offering a free sleave with new 311c models

Oh yes one last thing, the 311c has a massive following online forums full of people doing alsorts of funky things with their 311c's including Hackintosh which is quite fun)

Not the same spec! The Sony has a 1366 x 768 LED X-Black display, this is what makes it expensive. All the other 10" netbooks have cramped 1024 x 600 displays. You very much get what you pay for.
