Why is this cold? Looks good to me for the money. If I hadn't just got a MacBook Air would probably look very seriously at this!

Agreed!

I'm on the lookout for a thin-and-light, and the expresscard and build/screen quality of a VAIO are some advantages of this model. However, if pushed to a budget of £500+, I would just go the whole hog and get an edu-discounted 11.6" Macbook Air like these guys.

A pity that only Sony's netbooks are included in their 'get back VAT' offer.

Heat! This will be useful to some.

Sony dont even design all there laptops now do they?

I bought an Acer Timeline version which had Vista but installed windows 7 and had the exact same spec as this but inc. great battery and fingerprint reader and a dedicated graphics card and is only £349! :)

Not a bad price but I am afraid I got a pile of Acer Aspire/Timeline laptops for repair at work. I hardly see Sony come in for repair.

That might be true though because Sony charge arm and leg for anything. I remember Sony told me it will cost £95 to order a set of recovery cd 6 years ago.

I guess when you've bought an Apple, almost anything will appear to be good value. ;)

That is partially correct - they have a hand in the design but not manufacture. Very few laptop brands are also laptop manufacturers. You may find that the manufacturer of your Acer laptop may well have manufactured Sony laptops too so Sabz reasoning may well be valid for the "purported" lesser failure rates of Sony from the laptop repairer above.

Did I read this wrong, it doesn't have an optical drive? Not even a DVD player, or Rewriter.

Stone cold.
I've seen core i3s and i5s for that price; maybe not on that screen size but similar specs for a lot less.
Could do with putting Play in the title too.
saveonlaptops have much better deals than Play.

13.3 screen with i3 processor 4gb memory and 500gb HDD - TOSHIBA T230
Am using one bought refurbised for £390 (from Dixons)
New would cost about £500
