This is apparently the
"movie studio 9 platinum pro pack"
You can download the free trial from Sony
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiopp

Odd that the less powerful "movie studio 9 platinum" version is £10 more.

wonder if version 10 is imminent

This is not the Pro version of Vegas (despite the name) - it just comes with the platinum edition.

However despite that, I did buy this a few weeks back (50 quid at Amazon doh!). It is a fantastic application for video editing - thoroughly recommended.
#3
Or you could get it for free like 99% of people do :p

I agree. Just get it for free

So is this one of the best video editting packages available to buy (or borrow)?

HELP!
Does anyone know of a GOOD book (or site) where I can learn how to use this program? I found it really complicated - even uploading new video isn't intuitive.

I'm a professional director/editor and I have to say Vegas is not a bad tool for beginners/intermediate users.

Hot at this price (even if it isn't the pro version).

This said, the best editing software I've encountered (especially for HDV) is Canopus Edius. I'm fully versed with AVID, Prem Pro but have now converted all our systems to Edius - which is actually pretty intuiative and useful for all editors regardless of experience.

start with free windows movie maker... master that
then a prog like this will come easily.
however, I had a bad experience with pinnacle studio... killed my pc... never again!

btw imovie rocks and comes free with a mac! sooo easy to use.

Amazon also has Corel VideoStudio X2 Pro Ultimate for just £31.97 delivered.

Not sure if this is as good a deal though.

I'm still bitter that I bought the previous version (Corel VideoStudio 11.5 Plus) for $39.99 (about £20) direct from Corel's website, the X2 version was released a week later, and the "special offer" to upgrade was more than double what I'd just paid for my version ! Grrrrr....

And think of all the money Sony is going to make when they sue everyone who has illegally downloaded a torrent of this. Like this poor woman who was fined £1.2 MILLION for sharing 24 songs online:

http://torrentfreak.com/woman-hit-with-192-million-fine-in-riaa-case-090619/

Remember, everything you have ever downloaded is logged somewhere, and at any time the big boys can come knocking for their money....

Just ordered this as Im sick of the limited options in the Vista Movie Maker.

Comparison of versions here.

Review of this software here

YouTube review here

Hot because this also includes Sound Forge Audio 9 (even though this is a cut down version and that I am a big big fan of Audacity), so it will be nice to see how this has changed.

Regarding "free" software debate above, I'm now converted fan of a trojan-free legit PC software. You don't think people crack this software out of the goodness of their hearts do you? A delivery mechanism where people are keen to download executables is an ideal distribution platform. Buts thats enough on this topic.

£400 software against £40. I guess it may be a little bit better. :whistling:

Actually, I tried youtube but the first few I checked out ambled aimlessly through the desktop or addressed specific issues like making a flashfire for a gun.

I would have liked something to explain how to load and then edit video shot on my camcorder. I used XP's movie maker to create a three hour movie but all my tapes are in HD (which MM doesn't support) and I wanted to make an HD DVD of each tape before reusing the tape.

Love this i've got version 6 or something but need to put it on my newer PC and don't have the disk so may be worth upgrading to version 9 for this price.
Excellent software did some editing for my girlfriends dance company for a few tracks tehy did with different angles..once i synced it up to the master audio track it made a really professional video!

Can anyone comfirm whether you can insert more than 4 videos in a "project" and that the limitation is just on the 4 tracks (timelines) on to which you place these videos on.

Unfortunately WMM is very limited. I have it (v6) with vista, but it won't edit avchd format frommy Sony HD camcorder. I use it a lot though for making slideshows (dvd) with photos and adding music and limited special effects.

exactly... WMM is good for the learning curve

Or did it always say that? :)

Mine is shipping8th to 16th July

After trying a few, I found Pinnacle the best for me. Also got a green sheet (had fun with that). I guess these programmes are like Marmite.. (you love or hate them).

Actually, Im a qualified IT technician not a common (software) thief like you are, and I am often called upon to fix PC that have been infected through this very activity. Never mind, even if your sad little dig was true I'd rather be illiterate than IGNORANT :whistling:

Yes - limitation is tracks, not actual video files.

I've just ordered and it says:
Delivery estimate: 23 Jul 2009 - 24 Aug 2009
Dispatch estimate for these items: 20 Jul 2009 - 17 Aug 2009

Looks like it could be dodgy for the end of July.
I'm hoping they'll get it in sooner and this is a worst case - but I'm prepared to wait.

I'd been thinking of getting this anyway so thanks for spotting.

The estimate will probably drop down as more people order it, and you can always cancel the order of course.

Couldn't decide whether to get Corel VideoStudio X2 Pro Ultimate or this one. Unfortunately Sony Vegas recommends 2.8 Ghz for HD editing, and I've only got 2.4 :?

Will download a trial copy and see how my system copes. Reviews on amazon seem promising. Hopefully it will be alright and I'll purchase a copy.

I'd recommend at least a dual-core system for HD, and a decent graphics card helps.
