This is a load of rubbish, the specs are ****. I would rather buy a Mac, even though i hate macs. You could easly build your own pc with a much much better spec for 700 quid.
#3
The Blu-Ray recorder drive and the Sony 22" HD monitor will set you back more than £500 to start with, so please justify your comment and price this machine up...

I think you need to read the specs again. This is a very, very nice machine as a media center including a blu ray player and a twin DVB tuner.

Personally I wouldn't buy it as I don't trust Littlewoods to honour the voucher but you can't sriticise the machine.

You’re missing the point; this is a small form factor PC that uses laptop components (CPU, chipset and possibly RAM) so it’s not so easy to build a SIMILAR type of system at all.
You can build a higher spec ‘normal’ desktop for less money but that’s not comparable; that’s like comparing a Mini with a Mondeo.

Blu-ray burners are under £150 now so I can’t see the monitor being worth £350 regardless of Sony’s RRP.
#6
True about the BD burner, but this will be a slimline one as well. A slimline BD-player (not BD-burner) DVD burner will set you back £130 for an OEM one.

£1199.99 for this machine at PC World, so might be worth looking at one in the flesh!!

#10
thats a nice machine, mega hot deal! if only i had some spare funds!!
#11
i wouldn't knock Litlewoods totally - several of us have just got a Sony Vaio Laptop for £449 using discount code and mis price and have had them delivered - cheapest anywhere else around £800... this could be another misprice so if you want one grab it now before they pull it!

I doubt a dedicated graphics card will be able to be fitted to the case. This PC would suit a fairly specific audience which I think would be for a small bedroom/study. The processor is a good spec. Good price but only if its exactly what you need.
#13
;-) 1 available on Ebay for £1250 - a gap in the market perhaps!!

It's got a NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT GPU with 256MB dedicated RAM, plus access to upto1024MB of the system RAM.

Nice constructive comments! Of course you could build one, but how many average consumers build their own PC's? Plus a PC generally looks like a PC, this is all housed in the monitor. The TP2 is a similar price and you don't get the monitor or BDR with that. It's aimed at people who want a decent spec in a good looking machine for their office/kitchen/lounge etc.

Please go and buy your Mac that you don't like or maybe post something more constructive, it's not a load of rubbish..

You clearly do not have a clue what you are talking about. I presume you have never actually cost modelled the production of a PC on a mass scale let alone one with the components (and not just the final assembly articles - if you know PC manufacturing then you'll know what these are) and manufacturing in this one

I doubt a dedicated graphics card will be able to be fitted to the case. .
why would you need one when you already have a DX10 compliant 8400M GT in it which has better specs than an 8500GT desktop card?
#19
i have one of these and it's an amazing bit of kit. Not only is it a good speced PC but it sits on our glass coffee table and looks like a piece of art (well not quite but my wife puts up with it). If you want a big old bruiser to sit under your desk in your spare room then this probably isn't for you but if you want something to sit in your lounge this is the boy.
#20
I'd be amazed if this wasn't a misprice.

Written and Video reviews which do it a bit of justice for what it is - namely not a simple desktop PC

and this is a blockbuster of a price for this as it-s 1100 to 1200 quid everywhere else

I missed the graphics card ooops! .... so as you say no need to add one.....

Shame the screen spec does not suppport 1920 x 1280. Also doesn't appear to have an hdmi out so you could get the full benefit of the blu-ray by connecting to external screen. I can't see what software they have included to allow the playing of blu-ray DVDs so bear in mind you may need to buy PowerDVD or similar (but they may have bundled some suitable software - I would have thought that they would).

If you're looking for a new PC and don't have a good widescreen screen already and you have a small room then good deal.
#24
just checked the cost price from Sony's UK distributors and the cheapest UK buy price is from C2k at 1019.14 - defintely a misprice or crazy clearance on Sony (again) from stores in the ShopDirect Group
#25
This is an average deal if you are lacking in space or just cant be bothered to learn how to build one, a small form factor cube would cost a lot less and your able to choose your own spec, but that being said before the usual idiots will start bitching and jumping on everything anyone says.

When all is said and done you can build better and cheaper , but for someone who cant read enough to make their own pc ( come on you real pc experts you know damn well that everything only fits in one way its pretty difficult to stuff it up ) this is an ok deal.

Oh and bluray is over rated and yes i have a bluray drive and yes i have a decent tv. As usual over rated over hyped Sony

There's a few points to add about this which I just don't get.
1. The 8400MGT is a mobile gfx chip and is rubbish for games (no matter how much system memory it may use) - period! It may be DX10, but you'd be lucky to play any DX10 games on it, which pretty much makes it pointless, as a much lower spec gfx chip would be equally as good for media purposes.
2. It's fair enough to say this is a small form factor (SFF) media PC, which looks pretty so it'll go in the lounge, but why would you have a 22" as your main TV, and I'd have to question why they'd use a PC monitor that is 1050, rather than the 1080p TV standard? This means there will be some scaling, albeit minimal, but with all the other effort it seems somewhat strange to me!
3. Do like the oodles of memory (4gb) and it looks nice, but just not sure what the market they're aiming this at is!

I know some of you will read this and go off on one, but just profering my opinion and trying to be constructive!

has a ton of software with it, including WinDVD BD 8.0

I'm not aware there is an AIO Windows PC on the market today that natively supports the 1080p resolution you've mentioned on it's inbuilt monitor.

I suppose an HDMI out might have been nice but then I suppose so would rocket launchers and bullet proofing - you just can't get everything. And it's easy to pick the faults of what isn't there than the virtues of what is.

Still say this is a great AIO PC for this money

Reasonable points but

1 - Check the specs of the specific card and tell us what specific games it will not run on standard settings
2 - Your missing the point. It's not marketed, to my knowledge, as a replacement for a domestic TV although it would be great to have 1080p on it yes
3 - People who have a few quid who might want more than a PC sitting around. It's flash and whizzy with bells on. That's not to say there isn't a mrarket for everything esle of course
#32
Of course I also have a f**k off HD TV, this is my primary web portal in the lounge (Youtube after a few beers etc). It's also the perfect size for watching DIVX movies on.

Sony do not "own" BluRay, so it is BluRay that is overated and overhyped, not Sony.

may receive it but most likely get a letter in a few months time telling them voucher was invalid and clawing back the difference as they have done before, voted cold obviously ,why the mods continue to allow these littlewood posts is shocking.

I dont think that view on these % off vouchers resonates much now albeit it might do on £ off vouchers - in which case you might have a point. Particularly since all the people who got the CR21 and NR31 notebook deals used the % off deal fine.

A readjustment to the total on your statement applies when only ceratin customers are entitled to the discount. This does not apply to % discounts but does apply to money off.
#39
Littlewoods I dont know but I can say that ive had 2 Sony Vaio pc's now and both have been excellent. Cant comment on this particular offer though...
#40
If you get it for £700 then its a decent deal. The problem is thats its woefully overpriced in the first place like most Vaios which are looks over substance.

You will always pay a premium for a laptop no matter what you buy and no matter what anyone says a laptop will never, ever compete with a desktop when it comes to power or bang for buck value.

People will buy this machine and enjoy it for what it is and good luck to them.
