This seems like a great deal. Have been looking around for laptops, and this model is usually £700+. The specs are good, Intel Core Duo, 1.6 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 15.4" screen, Windows Vista Home Premium.

Seems like a good deal if you're after a resonable spec laptop, at a low spec price!

1.73 ghz for the VGNN21EW model.

wrong this is the old core duo chip NOT the core 2 duo

:)
#12
wow only 2 hours battery life...its probably better buying a Dell laptop.
#13
Well Ive changed the deal to the 1.73 ghz model. Comparing the specs, they look the same. However, the 1.6 model was previously 699.99 and the other being 5.99
#14
The second one posted isnt Core 2 Duo but Core Duo
#15
It is a core 2 duo. refer to spec here http://hdtvtest.pgpartner.co.uk/search_techspecs_full.php/masterid=32870418//
#16
The 1.7 laptop is intel core duo, the 1.6 (the one listed) is Intel Centrino cor duo and therefore the better, newer and faster chip,
#17
OK, lol ive changed it back to the Core 2 Duo model, which was the original deal. Im not very technological, but it appears the older version offers 1.73 Ghz rather than 1.6, but doesn't have the Core 2 Duo like the newer version.
#19
i think the core 2 duo is better!!

Looks to me like the OP's model offers a slightly better software package (Photoshop Elements 5 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard) while your suggested model has a faster processor.

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice, but they both look excellent deals to me.

Hi, this looks really good... how does it compare to the Dell 6400/640M range as per the link here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74631&highlight=notebook? Sorry if that link doesn't work, I'm new.

Was almost 100% decided on a dell but this sony seems really good value, and they look so nice :) Plus the fact that dell are discontinuing the range threw me off a bit. I want a relatively standard level laptop which would be okay for photoshop. Think this one is okay? Any advice much appreciated!

Yes, if battery life is all that you are basing your decision to buy on.

Good spot OP. The only downside on this machine is that the gfx card is a bit weak (but then most are when it comes to laptops / notebooks).

So tempted to place an order.
#24
Try ringing up Dell to offer a price match?
#25
Apparently Max Battery life is 225 Minutes, so 3 hours 45?

That seems pretty good to me, considering my Acer (which was £389.99 9 months ago) barely lasts an hour! Well, I guess I was ripped off :-(

btw, for those uneducated, core 2 duo is 64bit and faster than the same speed core duo. so dont bother with the 1.76ghz core duo get the 1.6ghz core 2 duo instead.

The VGN-N21S/W is a better machine than the VGN-N21E/W.

However, the VGN-N21S/W is Core 2 Duo, whilst the VGN-N21E/W is Core Duo.

Yes, the VGN-N21S/W is 1.6GHz compared to the VGN-N21E/W with 1.73GHz, but the 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo will be slightly faster.

It's like comparing power output from a 2 litre diesel engine against a 1.6 litre petrol engine. Greater displacement doesn't necessarily mean more power.

Do you think it's as good or better than a Dell 6400/640M? As in this one here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74631&highlight=dell+notebook ? Am looking for a fairly standard spec laptop which I can do occasional photoshop work on... this seems to tick all the boxes. A better graphics card would be nice, but can't afford a gaming-level machine, so am really thinking I might just get this as it seems very good value. Was planning on getting a dell but the fact that they're discontinuing the existing 6400 range put me off a bit. ANd the vaio's look so nice!

Sorry if I've posted twice, my last post just disappeared.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Soooo tempting... got an old Dell, was great 2 years ago, but obviously slow now. This site is so bad for my purse!
#30
I just bought this: http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74639

Is the Sony deal better? I know the Dell has a gig extra ram but the Sony deal seems really good
#31
I would definately buy now if it werent for the graphics card.
#32
Just ordered one of these, my wife's laptop died today and was about to order a Dell. Ordered the EDXTRACARD as well for £18 (with 10% off!) for a 3 year guarantee. Hope this is as good as it looks.
#33
Excellent deal. A mate and I both bought the VGN-N21S/W :)
#34
Must refrain from buying
#35
the graphics card is too weak! IF ONLY! IF ONLY! IF ONLY!
#36
thank you to the op I just ordered over the phone

I'm not an Ed-extra member but managed to talk the operator in giving me 10% off as I asked if I would get a 3 year warranty and he went away and checked and said that you don't with laptops.

So Punjabi Geezer how much did u pay in the end?

This is a superb deal, I rushed to get one, the only downside is the graphics card. Will it play internet games such as shockwave titles and Cartoon network games?

The graphics card is 256mb so it must be there for some reason.:)
