This is close to the deal which was run last week, Amazon selling at £192 with a free Video Cradle and the £50 CashBack.

But, I do like John Lewis.

Price should be shown as 199.99 and include information about £50 voucher. Almost had a heart attack, thought you were implying it would be 99.99 after voucher. :-D

I'm looking at Cowon S9 as an alternative. It think it has the Sony screen licked.

I can't see why Amazon would be a worse place to buy than John Lewis, and the free cradle makes the deal for me. However I still can't get my head around paying £200 for the S9 compared to £150 ish for the Sony. I kinda wish there was no £50 cashback offer on the Sony, it would make it easy for me. I actually ordered then canceled the original lower price Amazon deal here last week

Added price & retailers name in the title, thanks :)

I bought the 16GB version from M&S within the qualifying time frame. Any idea how I can find out if they are a 'participating store'?

Edit:
Or do they mean participating Sony stores?

OP can you please not include quidco/cashback into the price - its not guaranteed at all and doesnt reflect truly on the price you will be paying upfront..

instead would be better if : original price £x (+£x quidco, £50 cashack)
thanks :)

£50.00 cashback applies to any UK supplier so JL, Amazon, or in fact advanced mp3 palyers will all qualify for £50 cash back.

You can use code xmas10 on advancedmp3players and perhaps quidco. Hence JL deal is cold

When I bought this from Amazon last week - I first rany SONY and they confirmed that the CashBack would be paid on an Amazon invoice. I took a note of the name, time and date of call - just in case.

So, I am pleased with this MP3 Player, Cradle and £50 CashBack ,,,, should all add up to £142. Which kind of makes it a no-brainer, considering it has the best SQ of any MP3 Player.

I'm not too sure about that statement. It seems the Cowon S9 and the SOny X series both have their supporters. i do believe the S9 has a bigger and better screen though. Of course the price you paid is a very important factor. However Cowon are a very good brand and do have many firmware upgrades on most of their products. I can't believe Sony will do that, they would rather just release a newer model.

If anyone can be bothered

The Cowan has its supporters, but the SONY reviews state - quite clearly - that the SONY X Series is the daddy, the best, when it comes to SQ.

Make the SONY a huge amount cheaper and the Cowan doesn't come close really - does it?

I personaly don't take too much notice about online reviews. Sony have far more money to 'entertain' than Cowon, and sadly that is the way the world goes around. Perhaps I will order both and keep the one, that to my ear, sounds best.

Yes the price on offer for the x series is excellent, however that doesn't change the SQ. It is clear to me that out of the box the Sony is the better unit, but it also seems to me that the Cowon can be tweaked and there is an excellent forum to show how to get the best out of the S9. I like buying products than can easily be tweaked.

I have a pair of Shure E4C phone that I do not want to discard. I belive to get the best out of the Sony you need to use their matched phones.

I find it absurd that neither the x series or the S9 allow the creation of playlists on the fly, but one thing is for sure there is more chance of it happening on the S9 than the X series.

As I said I ordered then canceled on the same deal as you, so I'm not against the x series at all. I just don't believe it is as clear cut as you imagine.

I want it as the best out of the box ... I have no interest in messing about with it .... as for playlist on the fly - I just load what I want and be done with it.

I looked at the Cowan a while back .... it seems great for geeks (not meant badly!) .... but not for a simple soul like me who just wants it to do what it should without messing.

Well for what you are looking for the Sony certainly seems the correct choice. Both players are leaders in the field, and of course price plays a part. Enjoy it as I am sure you will.

EDIT: I have now been informed that it is possible to create playlists on the S9. Of course it supports OGG and FLAC too.

Is there a direct Link for the Amazon mentioned deal with the free Video Cradle or is that old news ..?

SONY have informed me that £50 cashback will not be paid if product was purchased from Amazon. Is this correct?
